Banks have started filling up vacancies, and there are some 4,500 probationary officer posts right now for the taking.

For the first time, the score secured by candidates in the common written examination for officers’ jobs in 19 public sector banks, conducted by Institute of Banking Personnel Selection last year, will be used by banks.

As of now, Union Bank of India, Syndicate Bank and Corporation Bank have invited applications from candidates who successfully passed the common written examination.

More banks are likely to notify vacancies before end-March. That’s happening as a number of senior bankers are set to retire following superannuation. "On an average, about 50 per cent of officers above AGM level are set to retire in 3-5 years in the banking sector, which calls for recruitment in a phased manner," a top functionary of Indian Banks’ Association told Business Line.

The candidates would be short-listed on the basis of their scores and will be called directly for an interview/personality test. Different banks have specified different cut-off marks as minimum qualification criteria.

Syndicate Bank, for instance, has specified that general candidates with a degree must get a total weighted score of 138 out of 250 marks. Corporation Bank has specified that general candidates must secure at least 151/250
CONCERNS

While the system of a common written exam has been welcomed by candidates, there are some concerns as well.

"Earlier, one had to pay a fee only once. Now, banks are again asking us to pay Rs 200 as fee. As we are paying a fee to take the common written exam, why should we pay fee again? Everybody may not be able to do this,” Ms Swathi Rupa, an engineering graduate and an officer aspirant, told Business Line.

"The eligibility criteria for IBPS written exam and jobs in banks are different. This is causing trouble to many candidates," Mr C. S. Vepa, Director, National School of Banking, a coaching institute for banks exams, said.

While any graduate is eligible to take the common exam, banks are asking for a minimum of 55 per cent marks in graduation.

"When banks tie up with IBPS for a common written test, the eligibility criteria should also be identical," Mr M. N. Bharadwaj, an aspirant in Hyderabad said.

Annalynne Mccord is certainly not a shy girl, but AnnaLynne McCord accidentally exposed much more of herself than intended on Twitter.

The actress, who plays Naomi Clark in the updated version of popular Nineties show Beverly Hills 90210, inadvertently posted a topless picture of herself on the social networking website.

The 24-year-old sent the snap to female fan, Megan Lujan, after plenty of previous exchanges but also alerted the rest of her Twitter followers to it last week.

She wrote alongside it: 'This is for you @meganraee You rock! Xxx A.'

But when fans noticed her nipple was visible in the image McCord pulled the original post down and replaced it with a cropped version.

Megan informed and assured her the offending feature was removed in the new picture.

'I can’t reply in a message since you don’t follow me, but yes its gone!! I wasn’t sure if you noticed it when you posted.'

However, the racy image continued to cause a commotion even after she had pulled it down with one British male fan prompting her to enter a fit of giggles when he made reference to it.

Heathrow Airport worker Ian Stenning wrote: 'I think we all really know who this was for. –> me.'

The star didn't take the mishap too seriously though, suggesting her fans share the naked photographs amongst themselves.

'Hahaha! Megan, you feel like sharing? Very funny I actually LOL-ed xxxA.’

Cracks In Airbus A380 Wings: Engineers Finds Cracks In Wings Of Airbus A380s

Australian aircraft engineers have called for Airbus A380 – the world’s biggest passenger aircraft – to be grounded, after Singapore Airlines and Qantas found cracks in the wings of their super-jumbos.

‘We can’t continue to gamble with people’s lives and allow those aircraft to fly around and hope that they make it until their four-yearly inspection,’ said Steve Purvinas, secretary of the Australian Licensed Aircraft Engineers Association.

Both airlines, and Airbus, admitted that they had discovered cracks, but maintained that the aircraft were safe. In total, 67 Airbus A380s are in use worldwide, on seven airlines.The aircraft are in use by Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Emirates, Air France, Lufthansa, Korean Airlines and China Southern.

‘We confirm that cracks were found on non-critical wing attachments on a limited number of A380s,’ an Airbus spokesperson said today.

‘We’ve traced the origin of these hairline cracks, and developed an inspection and repair procedure which can be done during routine maintenance.’

Singapore Airlines, the world's second-biggest carrier, operates 14 A380s already and has five on order, while Qantas has taken delivery of 10 of its order of 20 A380 aircraft.

The A380 has been in service for five years. It seats 525 passengers in a typical three-class arrangement. In total, 238 of the aircraft have been ordered by 17 airlines worldwide.

Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Qantas Airways said on Friday they discovered cracks on the wing ribs of their Airbus A380s, but said the cracks pose no threat to safety and repairs have been carried out.

The remarks came after Airbus said on Thursday that engineers discovered minor cracks in the wings of a ‘limited number’ of A380s, but said the cracks were not affecting the safety of the aircraft.

‘Cracks were found on a small number of wing rib feet on an Airbus A380 during inspections in the second half of last year. These pose no safety issue and repairs were carried out on the aircraft,’ SIA's spokesman Nicholas Ionides said in an email.

‘Repairs were subsequently carried out on a second aircraft. We have kept the relevant regulatory authorities fully informed and will be carrying out inspections and any necessary repairs on other A380s as they go in for routine checks,’ he added.

Qantas separately said that ‘minuscule cracking’ was found in the wing ribs of the Qantas A380 being repaired in Singapore after one of its Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engines suffered a mid-air blowout in 2010.

‘Investigations have found that the cracking is unrelated to the engine failure incident experienced by this aircraft in November 2010 and is not unique to Qantas. It has now been repaired,’ the carrier said in a statement.

‘No immediate action is required by A380 operators because the cracking presents no risk whatsoever to flight safety,’ Qantas said.

A Lufthansa spokesman said: 'There is no findings on our side and we have normal operations.'

Airbus said it has traced the origin of the problem and developed an inspection and repair procedure that will be done during routine, scheduled four-year maintenance checks.

SIA, the world's second-biggest carrier by market value and the first operator of such aircraft, operates 14 A380s and has five on order, while Qantas has taken delivery of 10 of its 20 A380 aircraft on order, according to the airline's website.

Both Singapore Airlines and Qantas are using Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engines on their A380 fleets.

A close friend of Michael Jackson’s has put some previously unreleased lyrics written by the late star up for auction.

The eight-and-a-half line verse has intrigued fans and is being sold by auctioneers Bonhams, who are expecting to offers of up to £3,000.

Dr Arnold Klein, Jackson’s dermatologist, is selling the handwritten lyrics after being declared bankrupt.

Research has shown that it is not part of any song already published and may well have been part of a composition not yet released.

It’s believed the words could also have been a work in progress or even a project that he abandoned.

The eight-and-a-half lines, written in pen on white paper, are now being sold by Dr Klein who is selling off his possessions since being declared bankrupt.

The verse in Jackson’s hand begins: ‘Across the sea of time, we shall meet on endless shores, counting our blessings of love’s eternity.’

One line is crossed out and the lyric ends: ‘So let us meet on endless shores at the break of dawn…’

Dr Klein was a close friend of Jackson’s – it was he who employed Jackson’s former wife Debbie Rowe, the mother of two of the star’s children.

Catherine Williamson, from Bonhams, said: ‘It looks like it is written in poetic format. There are eight-and-a-half lines and they feel like lyrics.

‘We could not find it in any of his published music so maybe it was a work in progress or is a song that has not yet been released.

‘These lyrics are pretty intriguing and we will expect they will attract a lot of attention.” The auction takes place in Los Angeles, U.S., on January 23.’

Michael Jackson, known as the King of Pop, died in July 2009 aged 50 during preparations for a new tour.

Dr Conrad Murray, Jackson’s physician, was last year convicted of the involuntary manslaughter of the entertainer and was jailed for four years.

Amir Mirzaei Hekmati: US Soldier Amir Mirzaei Hekmati Sentenced To Death In Iran

An Iranian court has convicted an American man of working for the CIA and sentenced him to death, state radio reported Monday, in a case adding to the accelerating tension between the United States and Iran.

Iran charges that as a former U.S. Marine, Amir Mirzaei Hekmati received special training and served at U.S. military bases in Iraq and Afghanistan before heading to Iran for his alleged intelligence mission. The radio report did not say when the verdict was issued. Under Iranian law, he has 20 days to appeal.

The 28-year-old former military translator was born in Arizona and graduated from high school in Michigan. His family is of Iranian origin. His father, a professor at a community college in Flint, Michigan, has said his son is not a CIA spy and was visiting his grandmothers in Iran when he was arrested.

Behnaz Hekmati, his mother, said in an email to The Associated Press that she and her husband, Ali, are “shocked and terrified” that their son has been sentenced to death. She said the verdict is “the result of a process that was neither transparent nor fair.”

His trial took place as the U.S. announced new, tougher sanctions against Iran over its nuclear program, which Washington believes Tehran is using to develop a possible atomic weapons capability.

Iran, which says it only seeks nuclear reactors for energy and research, has sharply increased its threats and military posturing against stronger pressures, including the U.S. sanctions targeting Iran’s Central Bank in attempts to complicate its ability to sell oil.

The U.S. State Department has demanded Hekmati’s release.

The court convicted him of working with a hostile country, belonging to the CIA and trying to accuse Iran of involvement in terrorism, Monday’s report said.

In its ruling, a branch of Tehran Revolutionary Court described Hekmati as a mohareb, an Islamic term that means a fighter against God, and a mofsed, or one who spreads corruption on earth. Both terms appear frequently in Iranian court rulings.

In a closed court hearing in late December, the prosecution asked for the death penalty for Hekmati.

The U.S. government has called on Iranian authorities to grant Swiss diplomats access to him in prison. The Swiss government represents U.S. interests in Iran because the two countries don’t have diplomatic relations.

Hekmati is a dual U.S.-Iranian national. Iran considers him an Iranian since the country’s law does not recognize dual citizenship.

Similar cases against Americans accused of spying have heightened tensions throughout the years-long standoff over Iran’s nuclear program.

Iran arrested three Americans in July 2009 along the border with Iraq and accused them of espionage, though the Americans said they were just hiking in the scenic and relatively peaceful Kurdish region of northern Iraq.

One of them was released after a year in prison, and the other two were freed in September in deals involving bail payments that were brokered by the Gulf sultanate of Oman, which has good relations with Iran and the U.S.

On Dec. 18, Iran’s state TV broadcast video of Hekmati delivering a purported confession in which he said he was part of a plot to infiltrate Iran’s Intelligence Ministry.

In a statement released the same day, the Intelligence Ministry said its agents identified Hekmati before his arrival in Iran, at Bagram Air Field in neighboring Afghanistan. Bagram is the main base for American and other international forces outside Kabul, the Afghan capital.

It is not clear exactly when he was arrested. Iranian news reports have said he was detained in late August or early September.

Hekmati’s father said in a December interview with The Associated Press, that his son was a former Arabic translator in the U.S. Marines who entered Iran about four months earlier to visit his grandmothers.

At the time, he was working in Qatar as a contractor for a company “that served the Marines,” his father said, without providing more specific details.

A BBC documentary about teenage sex which follows a girl hoping to lose her virginity has been branded a ‘freak show’.

The hour-long programme, which includes the F-word and discussions about oral sex and sex aids, is due to be screened on BBC3 on Thursday.

But the Corporation is under pressure not to screen Cherry Healey: Like A Virgin, which is scheduled to go out immediately after the 9pm watershed.

‘The show is terrible, almost a freak show,’ Vivienne Pattison, of TV watchdog

Mediawatch, told the Sunday Express. ‘It's also irresponsible, inappropriate, disturbing and even exploitative towards some of those featured in it.

‘For a programme clearly aimed at a teenage audience it is extremely irresponsible not to include any discussion of safe sex.’

Mediawatch believes there is a danger the Ofcom code could be flouted by using material harmful to the ‘moral development’ of under 18-year-olds.

Former minister Ann Widdecombe has joined Ms Pattison in condemning the programme, which is part of the BBC’s Sex Season.

She said: ‘The BBC should not screen this programme. It seems to me that they are just trying to set new boundaries and to do this at 9pm when a lot of young people will still be up is horrendous.’

Ms Pattison, who is to make an official complaint to the BBC and Ofcom, claimed the show was ‘prurient and exploitative’.

She added: ‘It is extraordinary that in following a teenager getting ready to lose her virginity, a bikini wax is filmed as an essential part of her preparation but condoms are not even mentioned.

‘The programme promises “essential truths amongst the tales of sex and debauchery, to see if losing your virginity is about more than just having sex for the first time”.

‘However, it delivers an inconclusive mix of titillating detail and voyeuristic confessional.’

The BBC was fined £150,000 for breaching Ofcom’s code when Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand used offensive language during prank calls to Andrew Sachs on Radio 2.

The controversial programme begins with Healey, 31, a former Cheltenham Ladies' College pupil, reading from her diary when she was 16. She reads: "I'm going to **** Ed senseless.’

It introduces a young man, Dan, from a jazz band who shows her a condom described as a ‘willy hat’ and jokes with her about sexual positions.

She then hosts a discussion with a group of young men, one of whom claims he had oral sex with a woman outside McDonalds.

Beth Taylor, a 17-year-old virgin, is filmed having a bikini wax before going on holiday.

Ms Pattison said: "She is packed off to Lanzarote to lose her virginity without even a condom.’

Ms Widdecombe told the Sunday Express: ‘It is difficult to see how parents and teachers have any chance at all of getting young people to behave responsibly if this is the sort of stuff the BBC is promoting.

‘It will not help with efforts to reduce teenage pregnancy rates in Britain, which are the highest in Europe.’

A Church of England spokesman claimed the programme was likely to anger people who believed that sexual activity should be confined within a faithful, heterosexual marriage.

A BBC spokeswoman said: ‘Cherry Healey: Like A Virgin adheres to BBC editorial guidelines and is scheduled appropriately with a strong language warning prior to transmission.’
