It could not have been a better start in 2012 for Shipra Khanna from Shimla who Sunday night walked away with the title of ‘MasterChef’ in the second season of the cooking reality show ‘MasterChef India’.

The 29-year-old single mother beat Joseph Rozario from Siliguri and Salma Shazia Fathima from Bengaluru to win the show that started off with 12 contestants.

The grand finale was telecast over Saturday and Sunday with actor Akshay Kumar once again returning to the show as a guest judge for both the episodes. Joseph Rozario was eliminated in Saturday’s episode.

Sunday’s final battle saw the last two finalists — Salma Shazia and Shipra — preparing dishes for 100 people, who through their votes declared the latter as the winner.

She won a cash prize of Rs.1 crore, a chance to host her own show on Star Plus and a vacation for three nights and four days in London.

The runners-up contestants were not disappointed either.

Salma Shazia was presented a cash prize of Rs.10 lakh, which she decided to share with ex-contestants Vijaylaxmi and Rajendra Narayan, while Joseph was given a job at the Radisson hotel.

The judges’ panel for the second season of the reality show included chef Kunal Kapoor and chef Ajay Chopra from the previous season, while Michlen star chef Vikas Khanna stepped into the shoes of Akshay Kumar as the third judge.

And it was no different yesterday as Victoria Silvstedt attempted to position herself on a sunlounge.

Flaunting her ample curves in a white bikini, the 37-year-old Swedish model appeared to be posing as she tried to get comfortable for a spot of sunbathing.

With a flick of her hair, the platinum blonde made sure she didn’t do unnoticed.

After finally settling in the sun, Victoria, who hardly has an inch to pinch on her frame, tucked into some tasty french fries.

Silvstedt certainly appears to have a perpetual penchant for skimpy clothing.

The former Miss Sweden was pictured in earlier at her hotel wearing a tiny orange bikini, which she covered with a sheer leopard print sarong.

The Jimmy Choo co-founder showed off her toned figure in a sexy animal-print bikini as she hit the beach with her daughter in St Barts yesterday.

The skimpy string two-piece highlighted Tamara’s enviable curves as she enjoyed a dip in the cool water after a spot of sunbathing.

But it seemed perhaps the swimwear wasn’t the most supportive option for Tamara, as the mother-of-two appeared to be struggling and looked surprised as she got caught up in a large wave while swimming in the sea.

However, the waves didn’t stop Tamara from looking effortlessly stylish, and the former footwear tycoon clutched a pair of dark sunglasses as she splashed around.

Tamara has had an eventful year which saw her step down as director of luxury accessories brand Jimmy Choo.

LeBron James has popped the question to his high school sweetheart Savannah Brinson!

The basketball superstar, who celebrated his 27th birthday over the weekend, asked Savannah to marry him at a New Year's Eve bash at SL Nightclub in Miami, sources confirm to GaTaGaT.com.

"Congrats to LeBron. @KingJames and Savannah so happy 4 u guys," Miami Heat owner Micky Arison tweeted during the evening.

LeBron had a winning birthday the day before by scoring 34 points, eight rebounds, and 10 assists in the Heat's 103-101 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

LeBron and Savannah have two children together: LeBron Jr., 7, and Bryce, 4.

Delhi Auto Expo 2012: New Cars To Dazzle Visitors At Delhi Auto Expo 2012

Despite a slowdown in their sales, car makers are all set to dazzle visitors at the Auto Expo 2012 here with their new vehicles and designs for mobility in future.

‘The slowdown in the passenger car segment is just a short-term phenomenon. In the long term, automobile companies are very bullish about the Indian market and that’s why they will showcase all their product offerings to familiarise the customers,’ Abdul Majeed, partner for the automotive practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers, told IANS.

Fuel price hikes and rising interest rates affected car sales last calendar year.

‘There may not be an immediate increase in sales or so,’ Majeed said. ‘But the companies would want the customers to know about their product offerings.’

The trade show begins at Pragati Maidan in the capital Jan 5.

The Indian car giant Maruti Suzuki will roll out its multipurpose vehicle Ertiga.

The company is also expected to showcase a compact sports utility vehicle (SUV), Swift Sports, and a hybrid version of the hatchback Swift.

Chennai-based Hyundai said it would showcase its multi-utility vehicle (MUV) HND-7, three-door utility coupe Veloster and premium sedan Elantra.

The biggest buzz, however, is about Bajaj Auto’s entry-level passenger carrier, RE60.

It is also being speculated that Tata Motors will give a glimpse of the diesel variant of its own entry-level car Nano.

The company is also expected to showcase the new version of its SUV Safari Storm.

Mahindra and Mahindra is said to be coming up with its new Reva electric car at the Auto Expo.

Italian car maker Fiat is lining up its new Linea and Punto.

The company will also be opening a lounge, the Fiat Cafe, in Delhi.

French auto-maker Renault plans to unveil its hatchback Pulse and SUV Duster.

In the luxury segment, Mercedes will roll in its new M-class, followed by the launch of its sports car, Roadster, and concept car A-Class.

German auto-major BMW is planning to hog the fair limelight with its mini range of cars, while Audi will launch its compact SUV Q3.

The Expo will also see first-time participation from Ferrari and Peugeot.

In the two-wheeler segment, Mahindra will launch its new Duro DZ scooter model and unveil its MGP30 racing motorcycle.

The 11th edition of the biennial exhibition is being jointly organised by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), and the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA). Some 1,500 exhibitors from 24 countries are to participate in the show.

The move comes just ahead of the Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, which are to begin from February 4.

Congress leader and Union Minister of State Sachin Pilot met Qasim Ali Khan and announced that the former BSP MLA will fight the assembly elections from Rampur on a Congress ticket.

A teenage Hindu girl in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi was allegedly forcibly converted to Islam and married off to a Muslim man, prompting her family to lodge a police complaint.

The case of the girl identified as Bharti, who has been renamed Ayesha following her conversion, is the 18th instance of forced conversions and marriages in the Lyari area of Karachi, The Express Tribune reported today.

The family of the girl alleged that she was forcibly converted to Islam and married off to a Muslim man. They filed an FIR at Baghdadi police station and a local court is now hearing her case.

During an appearance in court yesterday, she was clad in a black ‘abaya’ and barely looked at her parents when she saw them, the daily reported.

“She is being pressurized to say that she converted because of her own free will else we would be harmed,” said her father, Narain Das.

Bharti’s mother, a cardiac patient, was upset that she did not even glance at her.

“She is my only daughter. She does not want to meet me or talk to me. I gave birth to her and raised her,” she said.

Das brought a copy of the National Database and Registration Authority’s record, which states that his daughter is 15 years old.

However, certificates of her conversion to Islam and her marriage claim she is 18.

“The marriage documents have tampered with her age. She is not of the age to get married,” said Das.

Bharti’s husband Abid has been accused by her family of kidnapping her.

The girl’s relatives alleged that Abid is a “wanted man” who “uses drugs and has eyes for every girl.”

Das is not opposed to his daughter converting to Islam. His son converted too and lives in the same house.

“My son converted to Islam and lives with us. I have no issues with him. I have no issues with the girl either. She should not be forced into converting,” he said.

Amarnath Motumal, Vice Chairperson of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, is representing the Das family in court.

He said he had seen many girls being forcefully converted and never returning home again.

“Her (Bharti’s) statement will be recorded on Monday. Let’s see what the court decides. Maybe it will be the last time her family will see her,” he said.

Before she headed to court, Bharti said her marriage and conversion was a spontaneous decision.

“I liked Abid a lot. I went to the market to meet him and we decided then and there to run away,” she said.

Her father-in-law Mohammad Anwar, a constable at Preedy police station, said with a smile: “…she always wanted to be a Muslim and has knowledge about Islam.”

The Das family said it feared that if the court releases the girl to Abid’s family, she will be “sold or murdered.”

The relatives said they wanted a guarantee that they will be allowed to meet Bharti and that she will be in safe hands.

A frustrated relative said, “We are all heartbroken. If we don’t get justice, we will all migrate from here.”

Nine more districts came into existence in Chhattisgarh on Sunday, taking the total number to 27, Chief Minister Raman Singh said.

The new districts, a new year gift to people, were carved out to speed up the pace of development, Singh said while talking to reporters here.

The new districts are Sukma, Kondagaon, Balod, Bemetara, Baloda Bazar, Gariaband, Mungeli, Surajpur and Balrampur.

Sukma district has been carved out of the state’s worst Maoist affected Dantewada district and Kondagaon from the insurgency-hit Bastar district.

A 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck under the sea south of Japan on Sunday, shaking buildings in the capital but causing no apparent damage or tsunami.

The quake, which measured 4 in central Tokyo, Fukushima and their surrounding areas, struck 217 miles below the sea surface at 2.28pm (5.27am GMT).

Such a deep jolt is less likely to cause damage than one close to the surface.

The quake struck near the uninhabited island of Torishima in the Pacific Ocean, about 370 miles south of Tokyo, and its epicenter was about 230 miles below the sea, the Meterological Agency said. It did not generate a tsunami.

Buildings in the Tokyo area shook, but no damage or injuries were reported. Express trains in northern and central Japan were suspended temporarily for safety checks but later resumed.

No abnormalities were reported at power plants, including the crippled nuclear power plant in northeast Japan hit by the March earthquake and tsunami, public broadcaster NHK reported.

A massive earthquake and tsunami March 11 left nearly 20,000 people dead or missing. Japan, which lies along the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” is one of the world’s most seismically active countries.

It was centred near Japan's Izu Islands, about 307 miles south-southwest of the capital, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Buildings swayed in Tokyo, but did not disrupt the final of the Emperor’s Cup football tournament being played at the National Stadium.

A spokesman for Tokyo Electric Power said there were no reports of any irregularities at the tsunami-crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plan.

Some roads were temporarily closed and high-speed train services in northern Japan were suspended for a short time.

The Hawaii-based US Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre has not issued a tsunami.
