Preston first met John Travolta in 1987 while filming The Experts. The pair married in 1991. Both came on board of Air-France flight Concorde in September 1991 before their wedding at Hotel de Crillon, Paris, close to Place de la Concorde. Two ceremonies had to be conducted because the first, performed in Paris on September 5, 1991 by a French Scientologist minister (both Preston and Travolta are Scientologists), was legally invalid. The second ceremony took place a week later, on September 12, in Daytona Beach, Florida. The couple had a son named Jett, born on April 13, 1992, and have a daughter named Ella Bleu, born in 2000. On May 18, 2010, Travolta and Preston announced that she is pregnant with the couple’s third child, later confirmed to be a boy.

Their son, Jett, died on January 2, 2009 while on their holiday in The Bahamas.
