Former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor today tied the knot with Dubai-based entrepreneur Sunanda Pushkar in a typical Malayali wedding ceremony in his ancestral home at Elavanchery village near here. 54-year-old Tharoor, a former UN Under Secretary General and now a Lok Sabha MP, tied the ‘thali’, symbolising the marital bond as per the Hindu custom, amid playing of ‘Nadaswaram’ and beating of drums at the auspicious moment shortly before 8.30 am. While Throor was clad in traditional Malayali attire of kurtha and mundu, 48-year-old Sunanda, who hails from Jammu and Kashmir, turned up in an off-white ‘veshti-mundu set’ like any Malayali bride would have preferred on her wedding. Before the wedding ceremony, the two sought the blessings of gods and elders of the family, who included Tharoor’s 94-year-old maternal grandmother Jayasankari Amma. The tying of ‘thali’ was followed by exchange of garlands and handing over the ‘pudava’, a piece of new cloth to the bride by the bridegroom, a long-followed tradition of matrilineal Nair families of Kerala. The ceremonies took place before a brass metal lamp with a ‘para’ filled with paddy and coconut shoots, symbolising plenty and prosperity. The invitation to the wedding on the eve of Onam festival was limited to close relatives, friends and well-wishers. But a large number of mediapersons gathered to cover the occasion. The party from the bride’s side included Sunanda’s father Col Pushkarnath Das. Congress leader Manishankar Aiyar was the only senior politician present for the ceremony. Tharoor’s mother Lily Tharoor, sons by his first marriage Eshan and Kanishk and sisters Sobha and Smitha were present. Tharoor, an MP from Thiruvananthapuram, had to quit on April 18 as Minister of State for External Affairs following a controversy over his association with the bid for the Kochi IPL team. Controversy had become the other name for Tharoor who had parachuted into the rough and tumble of Indian politics from the air-conditioned and cushy environs of international diplomacy. The year-long turbulent political career of the flamboyant diplomat saw him leaping from controversy to controversy leaving his party Congress as also the government red-faced from time to time. He was an unconventional politician who broke many unwritten rules of politics and raised many an eyebrow by ‘tweeting’ on matters — both personal and not so personal. This is the former UN diplomat’s third marriage. His first marriage was to Tilottama Mukherjee, an academic who he knew from school days in Calcutta. Tharoor recently divorced his second wife, Canadian Christa Giles.

| CAT 2010 Notification, Exam date, Test Paper Pattern Posted: 21 Aug 2010 09:25 PM PDT CAT 2010 advertisement has been published in the leading Indian newspapers. It has provided almost all the main details regarding CAT 2010. It is scheduled to be held during the period Wednesday 27 Oct. to Wednesday 24 Nov 2010. The CAT 2010 vouchers can be obtained from selected Axis Bank branches between Monday, 30 August – Monday, 27 September 2010 for Rs. 1400/- (Rs. 700/- for SC/ST candidates). Online registrations are open from Monday, 30 August 2010 – Thursday, 30 September 2010. The online CAT 2010 Exam will be a two and a half hour paper including a 15 minute tutorial. It will consist of 60 questions distributed over 3 sections viz. QA, VA & DILR. CAT 2010 results will be declared on 12 January 2011 on the website www.catiim.in. CAT 2010 Test Paper Pattern :: The duration of the test is 2 hours and 30 minutes including initial 15 minute tutorial. No breaks will be given during the test. The test consists of questions that evaluate a candidate's quantitative, verbal, and logical & data interpretation abilities. Therefore, there are a total of three sections in the test. There will be about 60 questions in the test. At the test venue, each candidate will be seated at a desk with a computer terminal and he/she will be provided with a scratch paper for calculations. After the test, candidate must leave the scratch paper at the desk. | CAT Forms 2010: CAT Exam 2010 Notification Posted: 21 Aug 2010 09:22 PM PDT Exam date notification for CAT 2010 is likely to come out on 29th August, 2010 – the last Sunday of August on this CAT website as well as in leading newspapers. This blog post is being written as an advance information and same would be updated with detailed scheduled dates of CAT exam 2010 – like CAT 2010 form submission dates etc. when the official notification is published. If this story from Hindustan Times dated 24th July 2010 is to be believed, CAT 2010 exam would be held online from 27th October till 23rd November, 2010. You can choose any date within this exam window period to appear in the 2 and half hour CAT exam. When CAT 2010 online forms would be opened for submission? Online registration for CAT 2009 started from 9th September till 11th October, 2009 and the exam was held from 28th November till 7th December 2009. Since the dates of CAT 2010 has been advanced by a month, I think CAT 2010 form submission dates (i.e. online registration) would be scheduled immediately as soon as the notification comes out in the last week of August. With the lessons learnt in last years CAT 2009 technical glitches, this year, in CAT 2010, few changes have been brought. These are: 1.0 Number of exam test centres would be reduced – only those test centres which has the proper test infrastructure and software would be retained for CAT 2010. (Which were the CAT 2009 test centre? Click here to find – expect some of them to be dropped!) 2.0 CAT 2010 Exam window period has been scheduled longer – in CAT 2009 it was only for 10 days, while in CAT 2010 it would be for 28 days. (Why increase in this window period? Obviously to take care of reduced number of test centres). 3.0 Even after the great online debacle last year, Prometric shall again conduct this years CAT exam on behalf of IIM's. But it has dropped NIIT as the delivery partner, instead it is going for multiple test delivery partners for the CAT 2010 – the MeritTrac Services Pvt. Ltd and the Everonn Education Ltd.
