The company plans to launch the Mini in India as well. BMW India will get the Roadster Z4 to India too. This could cost anywhere between Rs 50 – 80 lakh. What's more? Will the More Powerful i20 be Able to Drive Away its Competitors?

Posted: 12 Aug 2010 09:40 PM PDT

Hyundai launched the i20 with a 1.2-litre petrol engine last year. The precise reason for using the 1.2-litre was to get the duty cut. But the engine never did justice to the car in terms of performance.

Hyundai now launches the 1.4-litre diesel engine for its i20. The car will be launched on the 7th of July. The CRDI engine in the i20 hood is more powerful and efficient too. The people who complained about the i20's power will now be happy. Hyundai intends to launch the i20 with a 1.4 litre "Petrol engine". Probably, the 1.4-litre petrol engine could be available only with automatic transmission.

So, the i20 could attract buyers more buyers. The i20 diesel could cost Rs 70,000 more than the 1.2-litre petrol engine already available. We at CarWale believe the i20 could capture a great deal of the market considering its styling and new powerful motor. But the doubt in our mind is the pricing. If the car is priced aggressively, it will certainly do well. People do need change and maybe Hyundai has done most of its homework well and i20 could just do the trick in the premium segment market.

Ford Endeavour becomes Cheaper

Posted: 12 Aug 2010 09:38 PM PDT

Ford India announced a reduction in the price of its SUV, the Endeavour by Rs. 6,000. This new pricing of the Endeavour is a direct result of the announcement made in The Union Budget 2009. It has been proposed that the excise duty applicable on cars of engine capacity 2000cc and above will be reduced from Rs 20,000/- per vehicle to Rs 15, 000 per vehicle.

Tim Tucker, vice president, sales, Ford India, said. "The additional duty reduction has been a welcome step taken by the Government though the reduction is limited only to large cars. We are pleased to pass the benefit of the reduction on the Endeavour to the consumer in entirety."

The price reduction of Rs 6,000 will be applicable to all three variants of the Endeavour. The base model (2.5l) of the Endeavour will now be available at Rs 15, 01,000 (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The Ford Endeavour is available in two other variants – the 2.5l XLT and the 3.0l Thunder Plus.

The J.D. Power Asia Pacific India Vehicle Dependability Study 2009 rated Ford Endeavour No. 1 in vehicle dependability in the SUV segment. Ford continues to maintain its leadership position in the SUV segment and has sold more than 1118 units through January to June, registering a 29% market share.

Hyundai Launches i20 with Diesel, Bigger Petrol Engines

Posted: 12 Aug 2010 09:35 PM PDT

Hyundai Motors India Limited are nothing if not committed to the Indian market. In just over ten years, they've come a long way, from a brand that no one had heard of to the second-biggest player in the market. They're particularly good at making small cars, but the i20 is the 'big' hatchback in their portfolio. HMIL has now given their customers more choice with a 90bhp diesel and a 100bhp petrol, both displacing 1.4 litres.

The diesel is the car that everyone's been waiting for, since the 1.2-litre Kappa had adequate power, but it was just that – adequate. What's more surprising – and has us really very pleased – is the 1.4-litre petrol with the automatic gearbox. For a nation that spends most of its time crawling around in traffic jams, we have surprisingly not taken to the convenience of an auto 'box.  The diesel is priced from Rs 6.1 to 7.2 lakh and the 1.4l petrol is priced from Rs 7.31 to 7.72 lakh, which is almost Verna territory. Does the car justify the price tag? We can't wait to find out when we drive one. Keep an eye on our roadtests section.

Toyota built the Innova, Mahindra built the Xylo. So why will Tata stay quiet? Tata is building it's first-ever MUV the Xover The Indicruz will compete with the Toyota Innova and the Mahindra Xylo.  Tata's car profile will have some more variety with this Multi-Utility Vehicle. The Indicruz is based on the platform of the Tata Safari and will sport the same 2.2-litre engine block which powers the Safari.

Engine:
The Tata Xover features the 32-bit 2.2-litre 16 valve DICOR engine which even powers the Tata Safari DICOR, Sumo Grande and the Xenon XT. The engine has two variants, one which produces 140bhp and the other which produces 120bhp. The Sumo Grande has the 120bhp engine whereas the rest has 140bhp engine. Maruti Suzuki A-Star Automatic Coming in End August 2010

Posted: 12 Aug 2010 09:29 PM PDT

Maruti Suzuki A-Star Automatic
Expected in End August 2010
Estimated price: Rs 5.2 lakh
Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. first made its new KB engine series debut with the Maruti Suzuki A-Star in India. The A-Star as it is known in India, is really what the rest of the world knows as the Suzuki Alto and it has been designed to replace the older Alto in the European markets and go up against the Hyundai i10. The A-Star has only seen moderate success in the Indian market, however Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. are all set to roll out an automatic transmission version of the A-Star.

The A-Star Automatic variant will most likely sport a four-speed transmission and although the price of the Maruti A-Star automatic is still unannounced, the company will most probably price it as aggressively as they can to give the Hyundai i10 Automatic some stiff competition. The i10 Automatic is currently the only automatic transmission equipped car in the small car segment. Although exact pricing of the car is still unknown, expect to pay at least Rs.30,000 more than the manual variant. We believe that the car would come only in the ZXi top-end trim level with all the bells and whistles. However to keep the pricing competitive Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. may just launch it in the VXi trim.

Maruti Suzuki would certainly want the A-Star Automatic to be priced under the 4.5lakh (ex-showroom) bracket to make a better case for itself in the eyes of an automatic car consumer. The fact also remains that the A-Star with a different front grille and a different set of headlamps is exported to the European markets as the Nissan Pixo where it is available in a five-speed manual and a four-speed automatic guise.

Competition:

The only competition to the A-Star automatic is the i10 automatic which is similar in terms of pricing and features. Both the compact hatchbacks with automatic variants makes it very convenient to drive in bumper-to-bumper city traffic. The

Specs (Speculated)

Engine Displacement: 998cc
Power: 67bhp
Transmission: Four-speed automatic
