After repeated requests by Speaker Muhammad Akbar Lone failed to restore order, he ordered the marshals to take the protesting PDP legislators out of the house. Pandemonium continued in the assembly till the PDP legislators were taken out of the house. Before the assembly security staff led them out, the PDP legislators gathered near the speaker’s podium and Mehbooba Mufti even tried to fling a microphone at the speaker. “The government is trying to protect the killers involved in the Shopian rape and murder case,” she told reporters outside the assembly. In the same year, she was offered a role in the first Merchant Ivory Production "The Householder", which was directed by James Ivory. Later she made a guest appearance in the film, The Guru (1969) after which she aborted her filmy career and married to Bikki Oberoi, the son of Mohan Singh Oberoi, the founder of Oberoi Group of Hotels, with whom she had twin beautiful daughters, but divorced and tied knot with her childhood friend poet Dom Moraes, and stayed with him in Hong Kong for about ten years.
