Harish Sharma Dead: Indian Basketball’s CEO Harish Sharma Dead

Harish Sharma, former basketball international and chief executive of Basketball Federation of India (BFI), died on Friday night. He was 53.

“The BFI mourns his death and pays condolences to Sharma’s family and close friends. His influence on the game of basketball in India will be irreplaceable,” BFI said in its condolence message through a press release.

Sharma represented the national basketball team in the 70s. He was appointed the secretary general of the BFI 11 years ago and served as BFI’s CEO for one year.

Sharma was also the secretary general of FIBA Middle-Asia Zone and the secretary of the Delhi Basketball Association.

It was recently reported that Ranveer Singh was looking at spending Valentine’s Day with his new love, Sonakshi Sinha.

The actors, who are starring together in Lootera, were to spend V-Day together, after Ranveer apparently convinced director Vikramaditya Motwane to let them have the day off, as it would not have been just to work on the day of love, given that their film is an intense love story.

Since his break up with Anushka Sharma, Ranveer and Sonakshi haveapparently become close.

Sonakshi, though, has pooh-poohed the report stating that she is still single and loathes V-Day.

Whitney Houston, who reigned as pop music’s queen until her majestic voice and regal image were ravaged by drug use, erratic behavior and a tumultuous marriage to singer Bobby Brown, has died. She was 48.

Publicist Kristen Foster said that the singer had died, but the cause and the location of her death were unknown.

At her peak, Houston was the golden girl of the music industry. From the middle 1980s to the late 1990s, she was one of the world’s best-selling artists. She wowed audiences with effortless, powerful, and peerless vocals that were rooted in the black church but made palatable to the masses with a pop sheen.

Her success carried her beyond music to movies, where she starred in hits like “The Bodyguard” and “Waiting to Exhale.” She had the perfect voice and the perfect image: a gorgeous singer who had sex appeal but was never overtly sexual, who maintained perfect poise.

She influenced a generation of younger singers, from Christina Aguilera to Mariah Carey, who when she first came out sounded so much like Houston that many thought it was Houston.

But by the end of her career, Houston became a stunning cautionary tale of the toll of drug use. Her album sales plummeted and the hits stopped coming; her once serene image was shattered by a wild demeanor and bizarre public appearances. She confessed to abusing cocaine, marijuana and pills, and her once pristine voice became raspy and hoarse, unable to hit the high notes as she had during her prime.

“The biggest devil is me. I’m either my best friend or my worst enemy,” Houston told ABC’s Diane Sawyer in an infamous 2002 interview with then-husband Brown by her side.

It was a tragic fall for a superstar who was one of the top-selling artists in pop music history, with more than 55 million records sold in the United States alone.

Alex Morgan Sports Illustrated: Alex Morgan In SI Swimsuit Issue Wearing Only Body Paint

United States women’s soccer star Alex Morgan will feature in Sports Illustrated’s 2012 Swimsuit Issue, without her swimsuit, the magazine announced.

The 22-year-old forward, who garnered national attention last summer with her performances in the Women’s World Cup, will be seen with her modesty covered only by body paint.

Three females athletes will appear in Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit issue, which comes out next Tuesday, Feb. 14.

The first picture of her photo shoot was posted to SI.com’s Hot Clicks blog Friday morning.

“Initially I was a little nervous,” Morgan told the site. “But this opportunity doesn’t come every day. After the initial reaction of nerves, I was so excited to start shooting, and honored to be included with such an amazing group of athletes and models.”

Over 1,250 Twitter users retweeted Morgan’s “surprise” midday announcement that she would appear in the magazine.

“I think that athletes have amazing bodies, and my teammates are a great example. They work so hard day in and day out to compete at the highest level, and their bodies reflect their hard work,” she said.

Morgan scored four goals in as many appearances in the national team’s January victory in CONCACAF’s Olympic qualifying tournament.

The result earned the United States entry into the 2012 London Olympics, where they enter the tournament as two-time defending champions.

In 31 appearances for the US, Morgan has scored 14 goals, including the opening goal of the 2011 Women’s World Cup final against Japan.

This infuriated the actress, who says, "We (Priyamani and Sachiin) were just unwinding after the matches. I don't understand why a story like this has been circulated. All it does is harm Sachiin and my reputations."

Now Sreesanth too has stated that, "Nothing like this ever happened. The entire episode is fabricated and a figment of someone's imagination." Hope Sreesanth's version puts this controversy to rest once and for all!

A 28-year-old Indian student Praveen Reddy in London has been admitted to hospital with stab wounds.

Praveen Reddy, an MBA student in London School of Business Management, was stabbed on Friday.

He stays in an apartment in London’s New Hampshire area.

Praveen’s father is a businessman in Hyderabad.

Police believe Praveen sustained his injuries at an address on Kent Street. Eleven people have been arrested. Four remain in custody.

Oiled up with her long hair soaking wet, the American Idol judge sits cross-legged, her glossy limbs strategically preserving her modesty.

It’s very revealing, nobody can deny that… but strangely, it’s been released at a time when J-Lo has announced that she tries to stay away from ‘the media.’

Lopez – who is currently dating 24-year-old backing dancing Casper Smart following her split from husband Marc Anthony last July – admits it’s hard to cope with all the constant speculation about her life and craves privacy.

She said: ‘It’s hard sometimes, I’m not going to lie. I try to stay away from the media as much as I can.

‘Sometimes. I try not to take it too personally, because I don’t think they do it just to me.

‘But as a human being it feels like that. You feel like you’re the only one being picked on. But the truth is, they pick on everybody.

‘They really don’t discriminate. I try to concentrate on all the great things I have going on in my life.’

She told WWD: ‘Here’s what I know about doing what I do – and obviously their dad is the same way. If they’re going to do it, there’s nothing I can do to stop them – and I’ll support them.

‘But just like my mom, I’m going to make them go to school and I’m going to let them make that decision when they’re old enough to make that decision.

‘I don’t want them to be in the business at a young age. I just don’t think they need that burden, that pressure.

‘They should have a normal life – go to school, play, grow up.

‘They should have a family life, as solid a foundation as I can give them. If they want to go off and be artists or singers or dancers or pilots or architects or anything – then they have my full support.

‘My mom couldn’t stop me from [getting into this industry], I won’t be able to stop them from doing it.’

She also spoke about her new product, she said: ‘Glowing is such a clean fragrance. That’s what I’ve always been about…At the essence, it’s still natural, earthy, clean and real, but a little different side of that. It’s the woodsy side of it, which I think is kind of New York-y, darker and sexier.’

Glowing, which also include top notes of bergamot, cypress and mandarin, among other scents, will make its debut in early May.

Yesterday, a model on the Gemma Kahng catwalk at New York fashion week suffered the ultimate wardrobe malfunction when her dress slipped down to reveal her breasts.

Seemingly unaware, the model strutted on, until a cool breeze must have alerted her to the incident. Only then did the model reach down and attempt to readjust the garment.

Her modesty recovered and dignity somewhat protected, the model continued her walk seemingly unfazed.

For most women, the thought of such a slip-up happening to them in front of a global audience would send them into paroxysms of terror.

For these girls though, who strip off in front of dozens of designers, stylists and fellow models on an hourly basis during fashion week, such an incident is par for the course.

Indeed, MailOnline’s model industry insider confided that many models would far rather suffer this sort of wardrobe malfunction than they would suffer a slip or trip on the catwalk – something which can be the kiss of death for a new model’s fledgling career.

This way round, the designer gets headlines – meaning a relatively low profile, off-schedule show such as this one becomes international news.

The model becomes the focus of the show – and not for something they have done wrong – propelling them to some form of stardom.

And unlike the engineered nipple slip from the Janet Jackson/Super Bowl debacle, for instance, no one is really to blame.

Everyone comes up smelling of roses. It’s a wonder they don’t happen more often…

Student from IIT Delhi was arrested from the college campus and brought here today for allegedly blackmailing an IIT Kanpur girl, police said.

Surendra Bhukhiya, a third year student of textile engineering at IIT-Delhi, was arrested for attempting to kidnap the girl and pressurising her to marry him, Circle Officer Shailendra Lal said.

The girl, a first year BTech student of IIT Kanpur, had registered an FIR against Bhukhiya in Kalyanpur police station on November 26, stating that the boy was threatening to misuse her pictures if she refused to marry him, Lal said.

The girl had lost her mobile phone and purse in November, which was found by Bhukhiya, who hails from Warangal in Andhra Pradesh, he said.

The accused asked her to meet him to return the phone and on this pretext, abducted her, the CO said.

He took her to a temple and attempted to force her to marry him, but she managed to escape, Lal said.

Following the incident, Bhukhiya threatened to misuse her photographs obtained from her phone, and sent her vulgar messages over email, facebook and phone, he said.

The girl tried to reason with him, but after all else failed, she registered an FIR, following which the accused was arrested from the IIT Delhi campus, he said.

IIT Kanpur administration refused to comment on the matter saying the matter was being investigated by the police.

On his part, Surendra Bhukhiya claimed he was innocent and the girl’s father, who is rich and influential, was trying to target him.
