AFTER just over 12 months together the relationship between Stephanie Rice and Quade Cooper has swum its final lap.

Following weeks of rumours, the attractive pair parted ways some time ago – as we reported last week.

It seems the triple Olympic gold medallist and the injured Wallabies five-eighth decided to wait until after Christmas to officially announce their break-up. Yesterday the obligatory statement was released.

“Stephanie has officially split with Quade and will be focusing 100 per cent on her Olympic preparation,” Rice’s manager, Titus Day, told Confidential.

Sources close to the couple say the split has “been coming for a while” and that they both moved out of Rice’s $1.265 million, four-bedroom house in the chic Brisbane suburb of Paddington back in October.

The darling of the pool has been struggling to find a tenant since, while Cooper is said to have moved into his $880,000 home in Bulimba.

Things didn’t get off to a good start for the two when they first hooked up in August last year.

While they were happy to parade their flirtation on Twitter and in public, Cooper’s girlfriend at the time, bikini model and air-hostie Elle McLeod, came out saying the rugby hunk failed to tell her they were no longer together.

Both super competitive, Rice and Cooper also spent a lot of time apart this year, as she attempted to overcome her ailing shoulder injury and regain her world dominance in time for the 2012 London Olympics.

There were training camps in Mexico and Singapore. Before leaving, Rice would cook and freeze Cooper’s meals so he wouldn’t eat too much take away.

When actress Farha Naaz lodged a complaint against the 39-year-old traffic home guard Ashwin Rajput for harassing her, he allegedly beat up a journalist and consumed poison.

The Navghar police have registered a case against a traffic home guard for posing as a policeman, in addition to molesting and assaulting a small-time actress as well as a journalist. The accused, identified as Ashwin Rajput (39), allegedly tried to take his own life by consuming poison when he learnt that he faced arrest, on Monday.

had introduced himself to one of the complainants — actress Farha Naaz (22), as Yasin Pathan. Farha — who works as a television actress — met Rajput six months back, when she had gone to a showroom to purchase a two-wheeler. Rajput, who was dressed in his khaki garb, claimed to be a policeman, and promised Farha that he would help her find a better deal on a two-wheeler. Farha then gave Rajput her mobile number.

Some days later, she began receiving frequent phone calls from him. He allegedly also started frequenting the house where Farha and her mother reside, at least twice a day.

According to her complaint, Rajput soon began sending her lewd SMSes. On Monday, he barged into her house. When she resisted his unwelcome advances, he allegedly assaulted her. It was then that Farha decided to approach the police to register a complaint against him. “The man has been threatening and harassing me for the past six months. I stay alone with my mother and was therefore scared to approach the police. But when he assaulted me, I decided to take action,” said Farha.

When a journalist approached Rajput to glean information from him at the police station on Monday, an enraged Rajput allegedly assaulted him and tried to shatter his camera. He left the station, but returned after consuming poison, and launched another assault on the woman and the journalist, even as they were lodging their respective complaints against him. When he collapsed, cops sent him to hospital for treatment.

“We have registered the case against Rajput for assaulting the two complainants, and impersonating a cop. He is in our custody, and is recuperating in hospital,” said SPI Dinkar Pimple of Navghar police station.

The rock band has posted a video on its website, Van-Halen.com, announcing that the first tickets will go on sale Jan. 10.

The black-and-white video shows guitarist Eddie Van Halen and drummer Alex Van Halen, along with original lead singer David Lee Roth and Eddie's son, Wolfgang, on bass. The ticker at the bottom of the video reads: "Van Halen on Tour 2012. First tickets on sale January 10."

No other information is posted on the website.

Van Halen, with its flamboyant frontman "Diamond Dave," was one of the most popular rock bands of the 1980s, but Roth left the band in 1985. Van Halen toured with him in 2007-2008.

Cristina Fernandez Cancer: Argentine President Cristina Fernandez Suffers Thyroid Cancer

Argentine President Cristina Fernandez has thyroid cancer and will undergo surgery next month, her government said on Tuesday, adding that the cancerous cells had not spread.

Fernandez, 58, was easily elected to a second four-year term in October, vowing to deepen her unorthodox policies despite complaints from business leaders who say her heavy-handed management of the economy is stiffling investment.

Fernandez was diagnosed with a papillary carcinoma that has not metastasized, said her spokesman, Alfredo Scoccimarro. The operation is scheduled to take place on January 4 and she is expected to take a leave of absence until January 24.

“The thyroid gland will have to be removed,” said Buenos Aires-based cancer specialist Julio Moreno. “The prognosis is very good. The chances of being cured are 90 to 98 percent.”

The cancer was detected last week during a routine check. Papillary carcinoma is the most common type of thyroid cancer and normally affects people under the age of 40, especially women.

A skilled orator fond of glamorous clothes, high heels and make-up, Fernandez still wears black as she mourns her husband and closest advisor, former President Nestor Kirchner, who died late last year.

When Kirchner died, many thought it spelled the end of the couple’s idiosyncratic blend of state intervention, nationalist rhetoric and the championing of human rights in grains exporting powerhouse Argentina, the world’s No. 3 soybean supplier.

But Fernandez pulled off a remarkable comeback on the back of a brisk economic expansion and an outpouring of public sympathy. She was re-elected with 54 percent of the vote, promising to stay true to her policies despite objections from Wall Street and international investors.

Latin America’s No. 3 economy is growing at nearly 9 percent a year. But a worsening global economic outlook combined with entrenched high inflation at home are seen reining in Argentina’s growth to about 4 percent next year.

Fernandez is one of several Latin American leaders to have cancer. Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez underwent chemotherapy earlier this year while Paraguayan President Fernando Lugo’s lymphatic cancer is in remission .

And former Brazilian leader Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is being successfully treated for a cancerous tumor on his Larynx, according to his doctors.

Former “Saturday Night Live” staff writer Joe Bodolai, who co-wrote the first draft of the movie “Wayne’s World” — has died … and cops believe the death was a suicide.

Media has learned … Bodolai’s body was discovered yesterday by a cleaning crew at an L.A. hotel.

Law enforcement sources tell us … Bodolai had been staying at the hotel for more than a week.

He also lists “Things I Regret” … which begins with, “My inability to conquer my alcoholism” followed by, “The things I did because of it.”

Bodolai also lists, “Things I Am Proud Of” — listing family members, his time as an “SNL” staff writer and “writing the first draft of Wayne's World with Mike Myers.”

Bodolai concludes, “May you all have the happy lives you deserve. Thank you all for being in my life.”

Japanese prosecutors have filed rape charges against a two-time Olympic judo gold medalist Masato Uchishiba.

Tokyo prosecutors said Masato Uchishiba, 33, was formally charged Tuesday. He is accused of raping a teenager at a hotel in September after intoxicating her with an alcoholic drink and taking advantage of her inability to resist. Her identity is withheld because she is a minor.

Police arrested Uchishiba in early December. He has denied the accusation, saying the sex was consensual.

He was fired as a judo coach in September by a university over sexual harassment allegations.

Uchishiba won gold in the 66-kilogram class at the 2004 and 2008 Olympics. He has since retired from competition.

If convicted, he could face more than 3 years in prison.

Cyclone Thane: Thane Cyclone To Hits Andhra Pradesh & Tamil Nadu Coasts

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has alerted the south Andhra Pradesh and north Tamil Nadu coasts of a possible cyclone threat on 27 December to 29 December 2011 with a cyclonic storm formation in the Bay of Bengal likely to intensify a severe cyclonic storm in the coming hours.

According to IMD, the cyclone named ‘Thane’ will mostly affect coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry besides leaving a moderate impact on coastal parts of the state.

IMD further said that the system is likely to move northwestwards and intensify into a severe cyclonic storm during the next 24 hours.

Weather officials predicted that rain may lash various parts of north and south coastal districts from Dec 27 to Dec 29 under the influence of the cyclone system.

Meanwhile, the Visakhapatnam Cyclone Warning Centre has sounded red alerts across the ports at Andhra coast and fishermen have been advised against venturing into the sea.

Aliahna Lemmon Dead: Dead Body Of Missing Aliahna Lemmon Found In Indiana County

A missing 9-year-old Indiana county girl Aliahna Marie Maroney Lemmon has been found dead, and the family friend who was watching her before she disappeared was charged Monday night with murder, authorities said.

Allen County sheriff’s spokesman Cpl. Jeremy Tinkel said investigators found the body of Aliahna Lemmon in the county, but he wouldn’t say where. He also said 39-year-old Mike Plumadore was “interviewed by police and taken into custody at 9 p.m. and charged with murder.”

Plumadore, who had been watching Aliahna and her sisters before she was reported missing late Friday, is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.

Earlier Monday, FBI agents descended on the rundown mobile home park in Fort Wayne where Aliahna lived. It’s a known haven for registered sex offenders, though Plumadore isn’t on Indiana’s registered sex offenders list. He has a criminal record in Florida and North Carolina that includes convictions for trespassing and assault.

More than 100 emergency workers searched Saturday for Aliahna around the mobile home park, where she was last seen. No active search was done Sunday for the girl, but search dogs and FBI agents were at the park and the girl’s home on Monday.

According to a state website, 15 registered sex offenders live at the mobile home park that numbers about two dozen homes.

Aliahna’s mother, Tarah Souders, 28, told The Journal Gazette earlier Monday that her daughter had vision and hearing problems and suffered from attention deficit disorder and emotional problems. Aliahna and her sisters were staying at a family friend’s nearby home because their mother had been sick with the flu and Aliahna’s stepfather works at night and sleeps during the day.

Plumadore told the newspaper Sunday that he left the three girls in his mobile home about 6 a.m. Friday and went to a gas station about a mile away to buy a cigar. Authorities have said the store’s surveillance video shows him there about that time.

“I had dead-bolted the door,” he said. “When I got back, all the girls was here.”

He said he smoked his cigar and went back to sleep, then woke up about 10 a.m. when Aliahna’s mother called. After that call, he realized the door to the home was unlocked and that Aliahna was gone. He said Aliahna’s 6-year-old sisters told him Aliahna had left with her mom.

Plumadore said it wasn’t until he talked with Aliahna’s mom about 8:30 p.m. that they realized she was missing and police were notified.

Tarah Souders said miscommunication between the two of them caused the delay in determining that Aliahna had vanished.
“She’s never wandered off,” Souders said. “She’s never done anything like this before.”
