She has been the Chief Minister of Delhi since 1998. She is from the Indian National Congress. Dikshit was sworn in as the Chief Minister for a third consecutive term of the Government of Delhi state in January 2009 after pulling a victory in November 2008 state elections. She is the eldest of three sisters. Holder of Master of Arts degree in History, with a honorary doctorate from Delhi University, she received her education at Convent of Jesus and Mary School, New Delhi and later in Miranda House, Delhi University. She was married into the family of Shri Uma Shankar Dikshit, noted freedom fighter, a former Governor and Union Cabinet Minister. Her late husband Shri Vinod Dikshit was a widely respected member of Indian Administrative Service. She has two children, one son and one daughter.
