Bangalore varsity to cancel affiliation for 10 colleges Posted: 27 Jul 2010 11:37 AM PDT Bangalore University finally has given an in-principle approval to the recommendations of the Local Inspection Committees (LICs) responsible for fixing the intake in colleges and renewing their affiliation. Dogged by inordinate delays due to legal wrangles, the LICs were constituted recently. At the University’s Academic Council meeting here on Monday, the recommendations of LICs were approved under broad-based guidelines. According to R M Ranganath, Registrar (Evaluation), as many as 30 LICs inspected 552 colleges under the Bangalore University which had applied for affiliation. Acting on the recommendations of LICs, as many as 10 colleges which neither had the desired infrastructure nor possessed proper academic qualifications will lose their affiliation status. “It was for the first time that the LICs comprised only academicians and not syndicate members,” Vice-Chancellor N Prabhu Dev told Deccan Herald. The Council also decided to accept the statutory requirement for the maximum duration for completing LLB and LLM courses. In addition, the University decided to introduce four-year Bachelor of Science (B S) course at Maharani Lakshmi Ammani College, Malleswaram; National College, Basavanagudi; and KLE’s S Nijalingappa College, Rajajinagar. This apart, the University will also offer the course. The course is in tune with international educational structure and will be followed by a one-year M S. The syllabus for the B S programme has been prepared by the University’s Scientific Committee and the Board of Studies. Read more
