Obama 49th Birthday | Wishes for President Barack Obama | Barrack Obama Birthday Wishes | Happy Birthday President Obama | Obama’s 49th Birthday CelebrationObama 49th Birthday | Wishes for President Barack Obama | Barrack Obama Birthday Wishes | Happy Birthday President Obama | Obama’s 49th Birthday Celebration

Posted: 04 Aug 2010 06:00 AM PDT

President Barack Obama's 49th Happy Birthday is 4th August. If you want to wish President Obama then make a sign in President's birthday card. First lady wants your electronic signature for a virtual birthday card.

The Democrats are making President Obama's 49th birthday on Wednesday a big deal. Our society uses birthdays to define responsibility and adulthood. The Constitution provides that a person is not mature enough to be President unless he or she is 35 years old. You have to be at least 30 to serve in the U.S. Senate and at least 25 to serve in the House of Representatives. If you are 18 years old, you can vote in federal or state elections, according to the 26th Amendment, but states or Congress could make the voting age even lower.

We know the President was old enough to host a "beer" summit at the White House, and we know he sometimes sneaks a cigarette. Under the law he is old enough and mature enough to take those risks with his health and the risks to society.

How old would President Obama have to be in order to be responsible enough to smoke marijuana? 49? 35 years old? Old enough to be a Senator or a Member of Congress? Old enough to drink? Old enough to vote? Marijuana is safer than alcohol and tobacco. That is not in question. As a society, we presume that if you are 21 years old you are mature enough to use alcohol responsibly. We only punish alcohol drinkers who are actually irresponsible.

Proposition 19 is on the November 2, 2010 ballot in California. It would let adults who are 21 use marijuana and grow their own. Isn't that reasonable? Isn't it time to Just Say Now?

Mr. President, happy birthday. Aren't you old enough to smoke marijuana? How old should the rest of us be to take responsibility for our marijuana use? If we are old enough to drink, aren't we old enough to be given the responsibility to use marijuana?

FBI in Wikipedia | FBI Seal in Wiki | FBI asks to remove its seal from wikipedia

Posted: 04 Aug 2010 05:54 AM PDT

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has demanded that Wikipedia stop using the FBI seal in articles on the online encyclopedia, or face possible legal action.

According to a letter dated July 28, FBI lawyer David C. Larson said the site is using the seal without permission from the director of the agency, as required by law. Larson sent the letter to the Wikimedia Foundation, which owns the site.

"The purpose of this letter is to advise you of these legal requirements and it seek your compliance with the law by removing the FBI seal," Larson said in the letter made available for download by The New York Times.

The agency gave Wikipedia 14 days to remove the seal. "Failure to comply may result in further legal action," the letter said.

In its response, the Wikimedia Foundation challenged the FBI interpretation of the law governing the use of its seal. The nonprofit said the law was meant to prevent people or organizations from using the seal to pose as the FBI or for commercial use. Wikimedia said it did not meet either criterion.

"While we appreciate your desire to revise the statute to reflect your expansive vision of it, the fact is that we must work with the actual language of the statute, not the aspirational version of Section 701 that you forwarded to us," Wikimedia lawyer Mike Goodwin said in a letter sent to the FBI. The letter, dated July 30, was also made available for download by The Times.

In response to a query by InformationWeek, Wikimedia spokesman Jay Walsh confirmed the correspondence with the FBI, and was awaiting for the FBI's response.

"As far as I'm aware we have not received any further communications from the FBI on this matter," Walsh said in an email sent Tuesday

Liviu Librescu Wiki | Liviu Librescu Wikipedia Biography | Liviu Librescu Wiki Profile

Posted: 04 Aug 2010 05:53 AM PDT

Liviu Librescu (August 18, 1930 – April 16, 2007;was a Romanian-Israeli-American scientist and academic professor whose major research fields were aeroelasticity and aerodynamics. While a prominent academic, he is most widely known for his actions during the Virginia Tech massacre, in which he held off the gunman, giving all but one of his students enough time to escape through the windows.[3] Librescu was shot and killed during the attack. Librescu was posthumously awarded the Order of the Star of Romania, Romania's highest civilian honor. At the time of his death, he was Professor of Engineering Science and Mechanics at Virginia Tech.

Life and career

Liviu Librescu was born in 1930 to a Jewish family in the city of Ploie?ti, Romania. After Romania allied with Nazi Germany in World War II, his father, Isidore Librescu, was deported to a labor camp in Transnistria, and later his family, along with thousands of other Jews, was deported to a ghetto in the Romanian city of Foc?ani.[5][6] As a boy, Librescu was interned in a labor camp in Transnistria. He may also have spent time in a Soviet labor camp.[6] His wife, Marlena, who is also a Holocaust survivor, told Israeli Channel 10 TV the day after his death, "We were in Romania during the Second World War, and we were Jews there among the Germans, and among the anti-Semitic Romanians."[5] Dorothea Weisbuch, a cousin of Librescu living in Romania, said in an interview to Romanian newspaper Cotidianul: "He was an extraordinarily gifted person and very altruist. When he was little, he was very curious and knew everything, so that I thought he would become very conceited, but it did not happen so; he was of a rare modesty."[7]
After surviving the Holocaust, Librescu was repatriated to Communist Romania.[5] He studied aerospace engineering at the Polytechnic University of Bucharest, graduating in 1952 and continuing with a Master's degree at the same university. He was awarded a Ph.D. in fluid mechanics in 1969 at the Academia de ?tiin?e din România.[8] From 1953 to 1975, he worked as a researcher at the Bucharest Institute of Applied Mechanics, and later at the Institute of Fluid Mechanics and the Institute of Fluid Mechanics and Aerospace Constructions of the Academy of Science of Romania.
His career stalled in the 1970s because he refused to swear allegiance to the Romanian Communist Party and was forced out of academia for his sympathies towards Israel.[5] When Librescu requested permission to immigrate to Israel, the Academy of Science of Romania fired him.[5][9] In 1976, a smuggled research manuscript that he had published in the Netherlands drew him international attention in the growing field of material dynamics.[10]
After years of government refusal, Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin personally intervened to get the Librescu family an emigration permit by directly asking Romanian President Nicolae Ceau?escu to let them go.[5][11] They moved to Israel in 1978.
From 1979 to 1986, Librescu was Professor of Aeronautical and Mechanical Engineering at Tel Aviv University and taught at the Technion in Haifa.[11] In 1985, he left on sabbatical for the United States, where he served as Professor at Virginia Tech in its Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics, where he remained until his death.[11][12] He served as a member on the editorial board of seven scientific journals and was invited as a guest editor of special issues of five other journals.[13] Most recently, he was co-chair of the International Organizing Committee of the 7th International Congress on Thermal Stress, Taipei, Taiwan, June 4–7, 2007, for which he had been scheduled to give the keynote lecture.[4][13] According to his wife, no Virginia Tech professor has ever published more articles than Librescu.

Fields of research

Librescu's major fields of study included:[13]

  • Foundation and applications of the modern theory of shells incorporating non-classical effects and composed of advanced composite materials
  • Foundation of the theory and applications of sandwich type structures
  • Aeroelastic stability of flight vehicle structures
  • Nonlinear aeroelasticity of structures in supersonic and hypersonic flow fields
  • Aeroelastic and structural tailoring
  • Dynamic response and instability of elastic and viscoelastic laminated composite structures subjected to deterministic and random loading systems
  • Mechanical and thermal postbuckling of flat and curved shear-deformable elastic panels
  • Static, dynamic and aeroelastic feedback control of adaptive structures
  • Unsteady aerodynamics and magnetoaerodynamics of supersonic flows with applications
  • Optimization problems of aeroelastic structural systems
  • Theory of composite thin-walled beams and its application in aeronautical and mechanical constructions
  • Response and behavior of structures to underwater and in-air explosions
  • Multifunctional and functionally graded material structures.

Honors and awards

Librescu received many academic honors during his work in the Engineering Science and Mechanics Department at Virginia Tech, serving as chair or invited as a keynote speaker of several International Congresses on Thermal Stresses and receiving several honorary degrees. He was elected member of the Academy of Sciences of the Shipbuilding of Ukraine (2000) and Foreign Fellow of the Academy of Engineering of Armenia (1999). He was a recipient of Doctor Honoris Causa of the Polytechnic Institute of Bucharest (2000), of the 1999 Dean's Award for Excellence in Research, College of Engineering at Virginia Tech, and a laureate of the Traian Vuia Prize of the Romanian Academy (1972). He was a member of the Board of Experts of the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Scientific Research. He was awarded the Engineering Science and Mechanics Frank J. Maher Award for Excellence in Engineering Education (2005) and an ASME diploma (2005) expressing "deep appreciation for the valuable services in advancing the engineering profession".[13]
Posthumously, Professor Librescu was commended by Traian B?sescu, the President of Romania, with the Order of the Star of Romania with the rank of Grand Cross, "as a sign of high appreciation and gratitude for the entire scientific and academic activity, as well as for the heroism shown in the course of the tragic events which took place on April 16th, 2007, [...] through which he saved the lives of his students, sacrificing his own life."[27] The Chabad Hasidic Movement named its Jewish Student Center at Virginia Tech after him [28].
The street in front of the U.S. Embassy in Bucharest was named in his honor.

Kishore Kumar | Biography | Kishore Kumar Birthday 4th August | Kishore Kumar wiki |

Kishore Kumar (Hindi: ????? ?????, Bengali:????? ?????}; 4 August 1929 – 13 October 1987) was an Indian film playback singer and actor who also worked as lyricist, composer, producer, director, screenwriter and scriptwriter. Kishore Kumar sang in many Indian languages including Bengali, Hindi, Marathi, Assamese, Gujarati, Kannada, Bhojpuri, Malayalam and Oriya.

After Ashok became a Bollywood star, the Ganguly family used to visit Mumbai regularly. Abhas Kumar changed his name to Kishore Kumar and started his cinema career as a chorus singer at Bombay Talkies, where his brother worked. His first film as an actor was Shikari (1946), in which Ashok Kumar played the lead role. Music director Khemchand Prakash gave him a chance to sing the song Marne ki duayen kyon mangu for the film Ziddi (1948). After this, Kishore Kumar got many other assignments, but he was not very serious about a film career. In 1949, he decided to settle in Mumbai.

Kishore Kumar played hero in the Bombay Talkies film Andolan (1951), directed by Phani Majumdar. Although Kishore Kumar got some assignments as an actor with help of his brother, he was more interested in becoming a singer. He was not interested in acting, but his elder brother Ashok Kumar wanted him to be an actor like himself.

He starred in Bimal Roy’s Naukri (1954) and Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s directorial debut Musafir (1957). Salil Chowdhury, the music director for Naukri was initially dismissive of him as a singer, when he came to know that Kishore Kumar didn’t have any formal training in music. However, after hearing his voice, he gave him the song Chhota sa ghar hoga, which was supposed to be sung by Hemant Kumar.

Kishore Kumar starred in films New Delhi (1957), Aasha (1957), Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi (1958), Half Ticket (1962), and Padosan (1968). Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi, his home production, starred the three Ganguly brothers, and Madhubala. The film is about romance between a city girl (Madhubala) and a car mechanic (Kishore Kumar), with a subplot involving brothers.

Music director S. D. Burman is credited with spotting Kishore Kumar’s talent as a singer, and advancing his singing career. During the making of Mashaal (1950), Burman visited Ashok Kumar’s house, where he heard Kishore imitating K. L. Saigal. He complimented Kishore, but also told him that he should develop a style of his own, instead of copying Saigal. Kishore Kumar did not have a formal training in music.

S. D. Burman recorded with Kishore for Dev Anand’s Munimji (1954), Taxi Driver (1954), House No. 44 (1955), Funtoosh (1956), Nau Do Gyarah (1957), Paying Guest (1957), Guide (1965), Jewel Thief (1967), Prem Pujari (1970), and Tere Mere Sapne (1971). He also composed music for Kishore Kumar’s home production Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi (1958). Some of their initial films included the songs “Maana Janaab Ne Pukara Nahin” from Paying Guest, “Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke” from Nau Do Gyarah (1957), “Ai Meri Topi Palat Ke Aa” from Funtoosh, and “Ek Ladki Bheegi Bhaagi Si” and “Haal Kaisa Hai Janaab Ka” from Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi (1958). When S. D. Burman was not on good terms with Lata Mangeshkar during 1957-62, he gave patronage to her younger sister, Asha Bhosle. The Asha Bhosle-Kishore Kumar duets composed by S. D. Burman include “Chhod Do Aanchal” from Paying Guest (1957), “Ankhon Mein Kya Ji” from Nau Do Gyarah (1957), “Haal Kaisa Hai Janaab Ka” and “Paanch Rupaiya Baara Aana” from Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi (1958), “Chhedo Na Meri Zulfein” from Ganga Ki Lahren (1964), and “Arre Yaar Meri Tum Bhi Ho Gajab” from [Teen Devian|Teen Deviyan] (1965).

C. Ramchandra was another music director who recognized Kishore Kumar’s talent as a singer.and their collaborations include Eena Meena Deeka from Aasha (1957). Kishore Kumar’s work includes, Nakhrewaali from New Delhi (1956) by Shankar Jaikishan, and C.A.T. Cat Maane Billi and Hum To Mohabbat Karega from Dilli Ka Thug (1958) by Ravi.

Kishore Kumar produced, directed, and acted in the film Jhumroo (1961). He wrote the lyrics for the title song, Main Hoon Jhumroo, and composed music for all the songs in the film. Later, he produced and directed the film Door Gagan Ki Chhaon Mein (1964). He also wrote the script and composed music for the film. The film is based on the relationship between a father (Kishore Kumar), and his deaf and mute son (played by his real-life son, Amit Kumar). He made another two films called Door Ka Rahi (1971) and Door Waadiyon Mein Kahin (1980).

In the 1960s, as an actor, Kishore Kumar built up a notoriety for coming late for the shootings, or bunking them altogether.. His films flopped frequently, and he also landed in income tax trouble. As a singer, his work in this period includes “Zaroorat Hai Zaroorat Hai” from Manmauji (1961), “Gaata Rahe Mera Dil” from Guide (1964), and “Yeh Dil Na Hota Bechara” from Jewel Thief (1967).

In the late 1960s, Rahul Dev Burman worked together on the soundtrack of the film Padosan (1968), in which Kishore Kumar sang the popular songs “Mere Saamne Wali Khidki Mein” and “Kehna Hai”. Padosan was a comedy film starring Kishore Kumar as a dramatist-musician, Mehmood as a Carnatic music and dance teacher, and Sunil Dutt as a simpleton named Bhola. Kishore Kumar’s character in the film was inspired by the personality of Kishore’s own uncle, Dhananjay Bannerjee (a classical singer).] The highlight of the film was a musical, comical duel between Kishore Kumar-Sunil Dutt and Mehmood, Ek Chatur Nar Karke Singaar.
