Cricket Champs Hunt: UTV Bindass Cricket Champs Hunt For Cricket Players

Posted: 31 Dec 2011 09:42 PM PST

In a cricket-crazy nation, how could a reality show on the popular sport be far behind? UTV Bindass is set to launch “Cricket Champs”, a nationwide hunt for cricket talent, waiting to find the right mentoring and platform to excel in the sport.

The show is being launched in association with New Delhi-based Indraprastha All India Sports Foundation. Cricketers like Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan, Keerti Aazad and Piyush Chawla among others will be mentors on the show.

“There is a definite attraction for such a show on cricket. Our main target audience

at UTV Bindass is the youth, who will be happy to see revered icons like Irfan Pathan mentoring young cricket enthusiasts on how to play professionally,” Keith Alphonso, the channel’s business head, told IANS over phone from Mumbai.

The basic concept of the show is to choose players, who have the talent but not the opportunity.

The markets in which “Cricket Champs” will hunt for the players will be Mumbai, Kolkata, New Delhi, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Chennai, Bangalore and Patna. It will also travel to other states – Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh.

The cricketers will be chosen in two categories — Under-16 and Under-22, and the on-ground hunt for the show will begin Jan 17, 2012, in the capital.

The selected candidates will be divided into eight teams.

The winner of “Cricket Champs” will win a cash prize of Rs.1 million, while the top 10 players will be given a chance to be coached by some renowned names in Indian cricket.

“Cricket is a religion in India. So after music and dance reality shows, it was time do a reality show on cricket. Like the ‘Indian Idol’, this is a version of ‘cricket idol’,” Rohini Rajdev, chairperson, Indraprastha All India Sports Foundation, told.

“Through the show, we are not promising a place in the Indian cricket team. But it will prove to be a worthy platform where they can show their talent, learn new things and prove themselves,” added Rajdev.

Jodie Fisher Dirty Sex Film: Jodie Back In Film Biz With Sexy French Romp

Posted: 31 Dec 2011 08:55 PM PST

Jodie Fisher, whose sex harassment claims brought down former Hewlett-Packard CEO Mark Hurd — may have spent some of the $1 million-plus in hush money Hurd paid her on a documentary-style film about her wild trip to the French Riviera with two gal pals.

The 51-year-old Fisher stars in an as-yet-to-be-released flick that shows her and two fellow divorcees hooking up with younger men, getting down and dirty in dance clubs and riding with a motorcycle gang.

Fisher and her two pals are listed as producers of the film, called "Cannes Without a Plan," according to Internet movie database IMDB, which says the 2011 flick was last updated in August.

The flick follows "three beautiful LA divorcees" who "leave behind five kids, five dogs" and "discover that freedom, friendship and sexy men can be had at any age!"

As Fisher starts to describe her "motivation for anything I ever do," the screen flashes the word "MEN" in all caps, according to one trailer.

There's plenty of on-screen action as the women cut a broad swath through the nightclub scene. At one point, Fisher finds a hickey on her neck, and there are several scenes showing the women in just their bras and underwear.

Fisher also boasts of a 19-year-old pursuer who tries to persuade her to have sex with him by telling her he's 24.

And after landing in a dumpy hotel room, Fisher jokes to her friend, "We're considering sexual favors, bestowing them upon people if they will put us up for a night."

Fisher, a former Playboy model who has also starred in soft-core porn films, prompted Hurd's resignation from HP last year after she told the board that he sexually harassed her and gave her inside information.

The nine-page letter to the board, penned by Fisher's bulldog lawyer, Gloria Allred, was released for the first time on Thursday. Hurd paid Fisher to settle the charges.

Neither Fisher nor her manager returned a request for comment, but a friend of Fisher's told The Post that she seems happy more than a year after the scandal and has been telling friends she's back in the film business.Jodie Back In Film Biz With Sexy French Romp

James Durbin-Heidi Lowe: James Durbin Weds Heidi Lowe on New Year’s Eve

Posted: 31 Dec 2011 08:28 PM PST

James Durbin sure knows how to kick off a new year.

The rocker and American Idol alum wed longtime love Heidi Lowe on New Year’s Eve, Durbin’s rep confirms. The couple made it official in front of 85 guests – including their 2-year-old son, Hunter, who served as ring bearer – in a chapel at the edge of a redwood forest in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

The couple's two year old son, Hunter, served as ring bearer. The 85 person guest list included fellow idols, Stefano Langone, Haley Reinhart and Casey Abrams.

After the ceremony, which took place at the edge of a redwood forest, Stefano tweeted, "Beautiful wedding! Just ended now and were on our way to the reception! Owww party on! 2012 baby it's gunna be the best year of our lives!!!"

“We are so in love and happy that we got to share our special day with our closest family and friends," the couple tells PEOPLE exclusively.

“This wedding was the perfect way to kick off the New Year. We are looking forward to living happily ever after.”

Guests included Durbin’s fellow Idol Season 10 alums Haley Reinhart, Stefano Langone and Casey Abrams.

Lowe and Durbin, 22, who released his debut album Memories of a Beautiful Disaster in November, plan to ring in the New Year with a reception at a local community hall that they describe as a “little bit country, little bit rock ‘n roll.”

One of the highlights of the night? Geoff Tate, the frontman for progressive metal band Queensrÿche, surprised the couple with a performance of his band’s 1984 classic “Take Hold of the Flame” – one of Durbin and Lowe’s favorite tunes.

Chloe Green In Bikini: Chloe Green Relaxing In Bikini In Barbados Photos

Posted: 31 Dec 2011 07:51 PM PST

Chloe Green description of a typical day on her annual holiday in Barbados is enough to strike envy in the hearts of thousands.

But today Chloe Green decided to mix things up by slotting some watersports into her action-packed day of doing very little.

The 20-year-old heiress struggled to contain her excitement as she bounded up and down on an inflatable in the sea with an unidentified male friend.

Chloe showed off her deep tan, the result of a week of sunbathing in Barbados, in a pretty khaki bikini as she made the most of the warm weather on the island.

And after having fun on the inflatable, Chloe was seen cuddling her male friend in the water, leading to speculation they may be more than just pals.

Earlier in the week, Chloe had tweeted friend Holly Valance and attempted to encourage her to fly to Barbados with the promise of an entirely relaxing break.

She wrote: ‘We need you here!!! I miss u!!!a typical day! Breakfast beach lunch beach tea nap dinner!! U need to be involved!!! Hahaa xxx’

The day before, Chloe had tweeted: ‘Such a fun day on tanning and jet skiing!! Now getting ready to party with a surprise act! Can’t wait #barbados xxx’

During her time in Barbados, Chloe has been showing off her figure in a series of sexy bikinis – presumably from her father Sir Philip Green’s Topshop store.

The Green family usually spend the Christmas and New Year period at the five-star Sandy Lane Hotel in a $25,000-a-night villa.

Along with annual Christmas visitors Simon Cowell and Michael Winner, other celebrity guests who have spent festive season on the island include Gary Lineker, the Sugababes and Rihanna. Sonam Kapoor In Bikini: Sonam Kapoor Wear Bikini For Bikram Yoga- Hot Yoga

Posted: 31 Dec 2011 04:16 PM PST

The young actress has got into hot yoga for this. Dad Anil Kapoor and mom Sunita are also giving her company

It’s been six months now and the Kapoors – Anil, Sunita and daughter Sonam – are pleased with the difference hot yoga has made in their lives. Sonam’s doing it for a bikini bod, while her parents are doing it for fitness. The family is working out together under the watchful instructions of Los Angeles-based couple Mark and Christianne Mead – disciples of the founder of Bikram Yoga (popularly known as hot yoga).

Sonam Kapoor Wear BikiniAnil, who was in LA earlier this year, met the yoga guru, who has the likes of Madonna, Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore, Lady Gaga and George Clooney as clients and expressed keenness to learn Bikram Yoga. However, Anil required a trainer who would be in Mumbai to teach him. “Bikram recommended the Meads who flew in to Mumbai in July this year and have been tutoring them exclusively since,” says Anil.

Sonam is working out for a sequel to her latest film that will have her sporting a bikini for the first time. She says, “I want to get fitter. And yes, I’m learning hot yoga to get a bikini body. I don’t believe one has to sport a size-zero figure to flaunt it. One just needs a fit, sexy and toned body.” Says papa Anil, “Hot yoga has not just helped me physically but has also made me calmer. Being in the kind of business I am in, the mind tends to wander. Hot yoga puts everything into the right perspective so the mind doesn’t wander and concentrates on one thing at a time.” Sonam Kapoor Wear Bikini For Bikram Yoga- Hot Yoga

Delhi Girl MMS Clip: Delhi Girl Attempts Suicide After MMS Clip Circulated

Posted: 31 Dec 2011 02:51 PM PST

A Class 12 girl student in west Delhi tried to commit suicide after a youth sought to blackmail her with an obscene MMS clip, police said Saturday. She is under treatment while the youth has been detained and is being interrogated. The accused, identified as Jeetu, 20, resident of Nihal Vihar, was held by police Saturday morning.

The incident came to light when the girl on Friday night tried to kill herself by hanging herself from a ceiling fan. “She was taken to the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital where her condition is said to be stable,” said a police official.

Additional Commissioner of Police (West) V Renganathan said the girl told police Saturday that Jeetu, who kept forcing her for a relationship, had made her obscene MMS clip after taking her photographs from her album.

“He had threatened her a few days ago that if she will not be ready for an illicit relationship with him, he will make the MMS public. When she did not heed his threat, Jeetu gave the clip to some of his friends,” he said.

According to Renganathan, when the girl came to know about it, she tried to commit suicide.

“Jeetu has been apprehended and is being interrogated by police. No case regarding the incident has been registered yet. Any further decision will be taken after the probe is completed,” he added.

Abbey Crouch Breast Implants: See Abbey Crouch Topless In Bikini Photoshoot

Posted: 31 Dec 2011 02:36 PM PST

Abbey Crouch has denied rumours that she has had any plastic surgery and insisted that she is an all-natural babe.

The stunning model, who has now taken her soccer star husband Peter’s name, admitted that she had been considering having her lips enhanced but had been put off by the criticism she faced when fans thought she had undergone plastic surgery.

She laughed: “The funny thing is I actually wanted my lips done and was genuinely thinking about it.”

And added: “But after that response? No way!”

The offending photo that sparked the speculation, though, did look pretty damning.

When questioned, Abbey rolls her super-long-lash-framed eyes to the heavens.

She explained: “I was outside, it was cold and I was going like this…” She blows her lips outwards and emits the noise we instinctively make when the weather’s a tad chilly. Brrrrrr.

And said: “Anyone with half a brain cell can see what was going on.”

And the star insisted that she hasn’t had a boob job either.

“Honestly, I’ve had nothing done. The only thing that’s fake about me is my eyelashes. Although I’d never say never to surgery. A little bit of what helps you – what’s wrong with that? Every woman wants to look her best. I’ve got nothing against it, but hopefully I won’t need it for a while.

“I put 2st on when I was pregnant, but I was all bump and a big fat face,” she says. “My mum told me it would drop off when I had Sophia, and it did.

“Each day I noticed my weight going down. I did ‘legs, bums and tums’ on a Sky fitness channel, and I do a lot of horse riding. And then I had the stress of my wedding in July and most brides find that they lose a few pounds with worry.” Abbey Crouch In Bikini After Breast Implants Abbey Crouch Naked After Breast Implants Abbey Crouch Nude After Breast Implants Abbey Crouch Topless After Breast Implants

Maria Menounos In Bikini: Maria Menounos Strips In Bikini At Miami Beach

Posted: 31 Dec 2011 05:52 AM PST

The problem with Christmas is that us mere mortals are inundated with snaps of celebrities looking sensational in their swimwear on their winter vacations.

And Maria Menounos is no exception as she could rival any supermodel in her skimpy blue two piece.

The US television presenter has been parading her body on the Miami sands in Florida, flaunting an enviably flat stomach and slender limbs while the rest of us struggle with the post-festive bulge.

The 33-year-old beauty is currently holidaying with boyfriend Keven Undergaro, who she was seen flirting with intermittently between dips in the sea and playing ball with friends.

Maria looked confident showing off her beach body, striding in and out of the water with her elongated pins and later posing on the seat of a Yamaha jet ski.

At various points of the day, she opted to wear a large white sun hat, protecting her hair from heat frizz and her shoulders from burning.

Her tresses hung loosely around her shoulders with an air of bedraggled bed hair, before she bundled her locks on top of her head while in the ocean to keep them from getting wet. Alok Gupta Shot Dead: Indian Student Alok Gupta Shot Dead In Canada

Posted: 31 Dec 2011 05:12 AM PST

An Indian student Alok Gupta, working part time at a convenience store, was shot dead in the western Canadian city of Surrey, in a shocking Christmas Day attack.

Alok Gupta, 27, had volunteered to work the afternoon shift to allow the store owners celebrate Christmas together, and was killed by an unidentified gunman.

It is not yet clear whether Gupta was shot during a robbery attempt.

Police is yet to make an arrest in connection with the case, but say they do not believe it was gang-related.

"The victim was working Christmas Day as a good deed to the owners who wished to celebrate Christmas together," said Sgt. Jennifer Pound of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.

Gupta sought help at a nearby residence and was taken to hospital. However, he was pronounced dead a short while later, Sgt. Pound was quoted as saying by the Vancouver Sun newspaper.

"Although it appears that the victim died from a gunshot wound, the cause of death will ultimately be confirmed through an autopsy," she said.

Gupta's brother-in-law Nitin Bhutani said his family is in a state of shock since they were informed of the shocking death.

Bhutani said Gupta, who was studying Master's in Business Administration at the Kwantlen University, was getting "excellent grades" and was close to the top of his class.

The family's main concern is that police arrest Gupta's murderer, Mr. Bhutani told CTV News from Germany.

"We want that Alok should get justice and the guy who is at large, who did that, should be put behind bars."

Posted: 31 Dec 2011 04:45 AM PST

For all those who grew up to the tune of "Hamara Bajaj", this piece of news will surely be music to their ears as Bajaj in its eighty years of history is going to launch its first four-wheeler in the Delhi Auto Expo, to start on January 7th.

Bajaj Auto, a major player only in the two-wheeler segment until now, will officially reveal its first four-wheeled application on January 3rd in New Delhi.

To be christened as RE60, the four-wheeler will be an epitome of not just a car-like vehicle, but even Bajaj’s future range of three and four-wheeler passenger and goods transport vehicles.

Clearing the air that Bajaj does not want to emulate Tata Nano, it has stated that the four-wheeler, RE60 will be its own type of transportation solution in the low cost segment.

With speculation rife about the fact that retaining its three-wheeler genes in the car which essentially is a three-wheeler, Bajaj will add an extra wheel to it just to give better balance, comfort and safety.

The four-wheeler, as the observers point out will be powered by a two or three-cylinder petrol motor with a displacement of 700-800cc at most. With power on the slower side, the vehicle may not hit more than the speed of 90 Kph. But what would give the car a definite edge over the existing players in the segment is its better fuel efficiency which is expected to be around the 30 Kilometer per liter mark.

As a complete in-house product, the RE60 was originally conceived as the ULCC project or Ultra Low-Cost Car under a joint-venture between Renault-Nissan and Bajaj.

Manmohan Singh Speech: PM Manmohan Singh Address Nation On New Year-Eve Speech

Posted: 31 Dec 2011 04:19 AM PST

In a New Year message to the nation, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said that he will personally work to provide an honest and a more efficient government.

The PM also said that the government is committed to a strong Lokpal and that it was unfortunate that the bill could not be passed in the Rajya Sabha.

“We have taken several steps to deal with corruption; these initiatives will take time to have full effect and we must be patient…Corruption is a serious problem that needs a multi-dimensional response; Lokpal and Lokayuktas are important part of the solution,” ” the PM said.

“It is unfortunate that the Lokpal Bill could not be passed in Rajya Sabha. However the government is committed to enactment of an effective Lokpal Act,” he added.

The Rajya Sabha debated the Lokpal Bill on December 29, but the bill could not be passed as the House was adjourned without a vote.

Full transcript of the Prime Minister’s New Year message:-

*********************************************************************************************************
Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, has greeted the nation on the eve of the New Year. Following is the text of the Prime Minister’s message:

“My Fellow Citizens,

I wish you all a peaceful, productive and secure New Year.

New Year’s Day is a day of resolutions. Each of us makes our own resolutions – to live a healthier life, to live a more honest life, to live a better life and to live a happier life. I sincerely hope in the New Year we can all work together with a new resolve: to make our homes and neighbourhood, our village or town, and our nation a better place to live in.

If each of us works towards that end, we can be sure that we are also making the world a better and a safer place.

The year that has just ended was a very difficult year for the world. Economic crises, socio-economic tensions, political upheavals in many developing countries and political deadlock in some of the developed countries, all cast their shadow on 2011. A ‘revolution of rising expectations’, fostered by the extraordinary reach of the electronic media and the connectivity provided by new social networking platforms, has kept Governments around the world on their toes.

We in India have had our share of problems.

The Indian economy slowed down and inflation edged up. Concern about corruption moved to the centre stage.

We must not be too downcast at these events. All countries and economies go through cycles. We must remember that downturns are followed by upturns. Indeed, they are often a test of our ability to respond to new challenges.

The task before us is clear. We must address the new concerns that have arisen while remaining steadfast in our commitment to put the nation on a development path which ensures rapid, inclusive and sustainable growth. I want to assure you all on this New Year’s day that I personally will work to provide an honest and more efficient government, a more productive, competitive and robust economy and a more equitable and just social and political order.

I believe we have made more progress than is commonly realised. I am personally delighted that Government was able to introduce the Food Security Bill and the Lok Pal and Lok Ayukta Bill in Parliament. The Lok Pal and Lok Ayukta Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha. It is unfortunate that the Bill could not be passed in the Rajya Sabha. However, our Government is committed to the enactment of an effective Lok Pal Act. Taken together with the Right to Information Act, the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act and the Right to Education Act, these are legislative legacies that generations of Indians will come to value, appreciate and benefit from.

Friends,

On this New Year’s Day I do not wish to dwell on the year gone by. Instead, I would like to focus instead on the challenges of the future, so that we can all work together to over come them.

Our biggest challenge today remains that of banishing poverty, ignorance and disease. Simultaneously, we must work to build an India that holds the promise of prosperity to the many millions of our people who are just beginning to emerge out of poverty. We must remain focused on this fundamental task in the Twelfth Plan period which begins in 2012-13.

As I look ahead I see Five Key Challenges facing the nation. To meet these challenges we need the concerted efforts of the central government, the state governments, political parties and indeed all concerned citizens.

First, there is the urgent challenge of eradicating poverty, hunger and illiteracy and providing gainful employment to all. I call this the challenge of Livelihood Security.

There are many steps we need to take to address this challenge and of these, the most important is to empower every citizen with the light of education. I say this with the deepest conviction because I know what education did for me.

I was born into a family of modest means, in a village without a doctor or a teacher, no hospital, no school, no electricity. I had to walk miles every day to go to school, but I persevered and was fortunate to be able to secure a high school education, and then go on to higher education. It is this access to education that transformed my life and gave me new opportunities which others with my background could not dream of.

I firmly believe that educating our children, providing them with employable skills, while also ensuring their good health, must be our first and primary task. There is no better investment we can make in the future – the future of our children, of our families, of our communities, and of our nation.

Along with education and affordable health care, we must also generate a growth process that can provide gainful employment to all. This is the only way that we can wipe out poverty in a sustainable fashion.

However, since many elements of this strategy will take time to bear full fruit, we must in the meantime pay urgent attention to the needs of those who need immediate support. It is for this reason that the government has taken steps to provide minimum employment and access to food to those who need it most.

I believe that the initiatives we have taken to invest in education and health, provide an employment guarantee and also provide food security, constitute a robust response to the challenge of providing greater Livelihood Security for our people.

My Fellow Citizens,

The second challenge that demands our attention is Economic Security. Economic security comes from having an economy that can produce the material output required to achieve desired consumption levels for the people and one that can generate the productive jobs needed to satisfy the aspirations of the workforce. To reach this level we will have to ensure rapid growth accompanied by adequate job creation. Rapid growth is also necessary to generate the revenues we need to finance our livelihood security programmes.

The process of economic reforms was initiated in the mid eighties and accelerated the 1990s precisely to accelerate our growth potential. Because of our democratic system, the reforms were introduced gradually to begin with, in order to garner broad based support. That we succeeded in this objective is evident from the fact that successive governments of different political complexions at the centre, and many governments belonging to different political parties in the states, have more or less pushed in the same direction. However, this gradualist pace also meant that the full effects of the reforms took time to have effect.

Yet, the fruits of this effort have been amply evident in the past several years. The average growth rate of the economy was around 4 % per year before the 1980s. It increased to an average of about 8 % since 2004.

Although we have every reason to be satisfied with this performance, it would be wrong to conclude that India is now unshakeably set on a process of rapid growth. Our growth potential is indeed established. But there are many challenges we have to face if we want to maintain this growth in the years ahead, as indeed we must.

To achieve sustained rapid growth we need to do more than halt the current slowdown though that is certainly the first step. We need to usher in a second agricultural revolution to ensure sufficient growth in rural incomes. We also need to usher in the many reforms needed to trigger rapid industrialisation and to build the infrastructure which such industrialisation needs.

Rapid growth will also bring structural change, notably in the rate of urbanisation. Our urban population is expected to grow from 380 million at present to 600 million by 2030. We must be able to provide productive jobs in the non agricultural sector for this expanding urban population and we must also be able to expand our urban infrastructure to deal with the expected expansion of the urban population.

In 1991 when we liberated our economy from the shackles of the Licence-Permit Raj, our main objective was to liberate the creativity of every one of our citizens from the deadweight of bureaucracy and corruption. Today’s youth, born in the 1980s and later, would have no memory of the kind of corruption that the regime of controls and permits had created. To get a railway ticket or a telephone connection you had to bribe someone. To buy a scooter you had to bribe someone to jump the queue!

However, even as the creative energies of our people have been unleashed and old forms of corruption have vanished, new forms of corruption have emerged which need to be tackled. Elimination of corruption is critical to support genuine entrepreneurship. It is also the demand of the ordinary citizen who encounters corruption all too often in everyday transactions with those in authority.

This is a serious problem that calls for a multi-dimensional response.

New institutions such as the Lokpal and the Lokayuktas are an important part of the solution and we have initiated the process for establishing them. But this is only one part of the solution. We also need reforms in systems of government which would increase transparency and minimise discretion so that the scope of misgovernance is reduced. We have taken several steps in this regard. We have introduced in Parliament a Bill on Citizen’s Charters which will empower citizens to demand services at appropriate standards from government departments. We have introduced a Bill on Judicial Accountability.

These initiatives will take time to have their full effect and we must therefore be patient. But I do believe they are transformational initiatives, which will be recognised as such a few years down the line.

A critical element in ensuring economic security and prosperity is the need for fiscal stability. India has paid a heavy price in the past for fiscal profligacy. Many of us can recall the dark days of 1990-91 when we had to go around the world begging for aid. Fortunately we were able to overcome the problem fairly quickly and for most of the past two decades we have been able to hold our head high, because we have managed our fiscal resources well. We must ensure that the country does not go down that road once again.

I am concerned about fiscal stability in future because our fiscal deficit has worsened in the past three years. This is mainly because we took a conscious decision to allow a larger fiscal deficit in 2009-10 in order to counter the global slowdown. That was the right policy at the time. But like other countries that resorted to this strategy, we have run out of fiscal space and must once again begin the process of fiscal consolidation. This is important to ensure that our growth process is not jeopardised and, equally important, our national sovereignty and self respect are not endangered.

The most important step for restoring fiscal stability in the medium term is the Goods and Services Tax. This would modernise our indirect tax system, increase economic efficiency and also increase total revenues. Another important step is the phased reduction in subsidies. Some subsidies, such as food subsidies are justifiable on social grounds and are expected to expand once the Food Security bill becomes operational. But there are other subsidies that are not and these must be contained.

Some of the reforms needed for economic security attract controversy and cause nervousness. This is understandable, but we should learn from our past experience with reforms. Things that we take for granted today caused similar controversy twenty years ago. We should remember that change is necessary for development and while we must anticipate change, and even protect the most vulnerable from ill effects, we should not lock ourselves into a blind refusal to contemplate change. If we have confidence in ourselves, we will be able to meet any challenge.

Friends,

The third challenge we face, is the challenge of Energy Security. Energy is an essential for development because higher levels of production inevitably involve larger energy use. Our percapita energy levels are so low that we need, and must plan for, a substantial growth in energy availability.

The energy security challenge is particularly great for India because we are trying to develop in an environment in which our domestic energy resources are limited and the world is transiting to a period when energy is likely to be scarce and energy prices are expected to be high.

As a first step, we must ensure effective utilisation of all available domestic energy resources. Unfortunately, our attempt to tap both old and new sources of energy is being threatened by a range of problems. Be it coal or hydro power, oil or nuclear power we find new challenges that have to be overcome to develop these resources to the fullest extent possible. We must re-examine all domestic constraints on such development to see how they can be overcome.

The domestic agenda for energy security is clear. We need new investment in established sources of energy such as coal, oil, gas, hydro electricity and nuclear power. We also need investment in new sources of energy, like solar and wind. Parallel with expanding domestic supplies, we need to promote energy efficiency to contain the growth of energy associated with rapid growth.

Both goals of expanding new investment and achieving energy efficiency require a more rational pricing policy, aligning India’s energy prices with global prices. This cannot be done immediately, but we need to outline a phased programme for such adjustment and then work to develop support for making the transition. I realise that this will not be easy, but unless we can achieve this transition we will not be able to promote energy efficiency as much as we should, and we will certainly not be able to attract enough investment to expand domestic energy supplies.

Energy security also has a global dimension. Even with the best domestic effort our dependence on imported energy is expected to increase. We need assured access to imported energy supplies and also access to new energy related technologies. This means we need sensible policies that can promote economic partnership with countries that have energy resources and technologies. We also need a pro active foreign policy, protecting our access to such resources and to foreign technology.

A fourth important challenge we face in the years ahead is the challenge of ecological security. Economic growth is essential for the well being of our people, but we cannot allow growth to be pursued in a manner which damages our environment. We owe it to future generations to ensure that the environment they inherit from us is at least as capable of providing economic security for them as the one we inherited from our parents

We cannot allow the waters of our rivers to be polluted by untreated effluent and sewage. Yet this is happening today because of weak regulation and lack of enforcement over industry and the cities. Similarly, we cannot allow air pollution to proceed unabated promoting respiratory diseases which impose a heavy burden on large numbers of our people especially the poor.

Ecological security also involves protection of our forests which play a critical role not only in absorbing carbon emissions but also in providing us with water security. Forests help reduce water run off and siltation and increase water retention in the ground, recharging our underground acquifiers. Some forest land often has to be surrendered to allow the exploitation of natural resources including energy and mineral resources and hydro electric potential. This must be done in a manner which minimises the extent of surrender and also provides sufficient compensatory afforestation to ensure ecological security to the nation.

All these problems can be solved and have been solved in other countries. It requires stronger and more transparent regulation and it also involves extra costs. These costs must be borne by those who pollute and this principle must be well understood and strictly enforced.

Looking beyond the immediate ecological issues, there is the larger challenge of climate change. As responsible citizens of the world we must pursue a pattern of development which reduces greenhouse gas emissions per unit of our GDP by about 20-25% by 2020 as our contribution to global ecological security. This objective is closely linked to the pursuit of rational energy policies mentioned earlier.

Dear Citizens,

Finally, and most importantly, our vibrant democracy faces threats to internal and external security which together can be viewed as the challenge of National Security.

Despite grave provocations from extremists and terrorists, the people of India have remained united. They have not lost faith in our plural, secular and inclusive democracy. Across the world people look to India for inspiration. Our model of Inclusive Growth in an Open Society inspires those who seek freedom from tyranny.

A new wave of democracy demanding the empowerment of ordinary people is sweeping the world and India stands tall as a functioning democracy. We are a nation of over a billion people, plural, secular, democratic – with all the great religions of the world freely practiced here, with so many languages and cuisines, so many castes and communities – living together in an open society. This is an achievement for which every Indian can be proud.

The world acknowledges this achievement. I do believe that the world wants India to succeed because India offers hope.

Our democracy has its faults, but our people are aware of them and have shown their ability to correct these faults.

Often democracy can be frustrating – both to those who are in government and to those who expect it to be more efficient, effective and humane. But our democracy is our strength. It is the basis of our unity. It is also the most important guarantor of internal security.

Equally important for our national security is the modernisation of our defence forces. Indeed, India’s economic and energy security also require this. Our Army, our Navy and our Air Force require modernisation and upgradation of personnel and systems. Ensuring this will remain my most important task as Prime Minister.

Dear Fellow Citizens,

Today I have shared my thoughts with you to make you understand the nature of the challenges we face entering a New Year.

I have identified Five key challenges facing us. These will be on top of our policy agenda this year – Livelihood Security (education, food, health and employment), Economic Security, Energy Security, Ecological Security and National Security.

In addressing each of these five challenges we must work together as a nation, while working with like-minded nations around the world.

I assure you that I will work with all the energy at my command to ensure that we meet each of these challenges and overcome them.

Let us stand united as a people in overcoming these challenges.

I wish you the best in the year and the years ahead.

Jai Hind!”

Venkatraman Knighthood: Scientist Venkatraman Ramakrishnan Honoured With Knighthood

Posted: 31 Dec 2011 04:15 AM PST

Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, India-born US citizen whose pioneering work in molecular biology won him the 2009 Nobel Prize in chemistry, has been honoured with a knighthood by the royal establishment here in a rare recognition of achievements by foreigners based in Britain.

58-year-old Ramakrishnan, known to most as Venky, is based at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge.

He has been conferred knighthood “for services to molecular biology” in the New Year Honours List 2012, according to an official announcement here.

After the list was released early today, Ramakrishnan said that honouring him with a knighthood reflects the contribution made by immigrants to British society.

In a statement after the announcement, he said: “In the current debate about immigration, it is worth noting that this award is yet another example of the numerous contributions that immigrants make to British society.”

“Indeed, many of the founding members of the Laboratory of Molecular Biology were immigrants themselves, and they helped to revolutionise modern biology.”

Ramakrishnan said: “This is an honour that reflects the quality of science supported by the Medical Research Council, in particular at the Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge. In my case, credit should go to the numerous dedicated postdocs, students, associates and colleagues who made crucial contributions to the work.”

It is rare for foreign citizens to be honoured with knighthoods.

Such individuals do not use the style ‘Sir’, but are often called ‘Sir’ in popular parlance, such as ‘Sir Garfield Sobers’ in the case of the legendary West Indies cricketer.

Besides Ramakrishnan, two other foreign-born Nobel Prize winners based in the UK have been conferred knighthood in the 2012 honours list.

They are Russia-born Professors Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov based at the University of Manchester, who were involved in the creation of graphene, a sheet of carbon just one atom thick. They won the Nobel Prize for Physics in 2010.

Unlike foreign citizens who were conferred knighthood in the past such as Chancellor Helmut Kohl of Germany, President Francois Mitterrand of France and Mayor Rudy Giuliani of New York, Ramakrishnan, Geim and Novoselov are based in the UK.

Born in Chidambaram in Tamil Nadu, Ramakrishnan studied at Baroda University, Ohio University and the University of California, San Diego.

Ramakrishnan was awarded Padma Vibhushan in 2010.

In the 2010 New Year Honours List, Indian-origin Mota Singh, Britain’s first Sikh judge, was honoured with a knighthood.

Other Indian-origin individuals to be honoured in the 2012 list include Professor Dinesh Kumar Makhan Lai Bhugra, lately president of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, for services to Psychiatry.

Anant Barodekar, founder of Club 25 for Young People, has been honoured for services to young people, while Kulvinder Bassi, Community Rail Team Leader, Department for Transport, has been honoured for services to Transport.

Also honoured are broadcaster Surjit Singh Ghuman, founder of Panjab Radio, Dr Hasmukh Joshi, Dr Raman Kapur, Madhurika Patel, Harbans Kaur Singh, Bakhshish Singh Sodhi and cricketer Umesh Valjee (for services to Deaf Cricket).

The royal recognition to Ramakrishnan, Geim and Novoselov, all immigrants, comes in the backdrop of the David Cameron government tightening policies to curb immigration from India and other non-EU countries.

The government’s measures to curb immigration by placing annual limit on non-EU professionals have come under much criticism, including from Nobel prize-winning British scientists, on the ground that it deprives Britain’s science and industry of talent.

In a letter to The Times in October last year, Geim, Novoselev and six Nobel-winning scientists said it was a “sad reflection” that scientists and engineers could not be afforded the same exception to the rules as Premier League footballers.

Besides Geim and Novoselov, signatories to the letter were Sir Paul Nurse, Sir Tim Hunt, Sir Martin Evans, Sir Harry Kroto, Sir John Walker and Sir John Sulston.

In the letter, the academics wrote that the government has seen it fit to introduce “an exception to the rules for Premier League footballers.

“It is a sad reflection of our priorities as a nation if we cannot afford the same recognition for elite scientists and engineers.”

They added: “International collaborations underlie 40 per cent of the UK’s scientific output, but would become far more difficult if we were to constrict our borders.

“The UK produces nearly 10 per cent of the world’s scientific output with only 1 per cent of its population; we punch above our weight because we can engage with excellence wherever it occurs. The UK must not isolate itself from the increasingly globalised world of research – British science depends on it.

Sunny Leone Evicted? Adult Actress Sunny Leone Evicted From Bigg Boss 5 House?

Posted: 31 Dec 2011 04:12 AM PST

Bigg Boss season five has reached its final week. The contestants have fought and played a really smart game to get till here and getting evicted at this stage would be a big loss.

The deadly Saturday which makes the contestants go weak in their knees is back. The nominees for this week's eviction are Sunny Leone, Amar Updhayay, Juhi Parmar, Mahek Chahal, Siddharth Bharadwaj and Akashdeep Saigal.

Amar and Sky have been getting constant support of their fans and have survived in the house with their game plan. Juhi is the perfect 'Bahu' and loved by all the house wives due to which her vote bank is safe.

Mahek is undoubtedly the audiences favourite as she re-entered the house as the wild card entry. This leaves Siddharth and Sunny in a tight spot; Siddharth has always been a youth icon in India and has gained immense support through his show Splitsvilla. So, does this mean Sunny will leave the house tonight?

Sunny has gained limelight from the show but she is not as loved as the others. She is also under the scanner of the BCCC officials as they feel that she might use this platform to promote her pornographic business.

The broadcasting body has asked the channel to ensure this and not help the actress in the same.

Mangu Singh Metro Chief: Sreedharan retires; Mangu Singh DMRC Chief

Posted: 31 Dec 2011 03:10 AM PST

E Sreedharan retires today as Delhi Metro Rail Corporation chief tomorrow and hand over the reins to colleague Mangu Singh after a highly successful 16-year tenure during which he transformed the capital’s transport sector through the Metro.

79-year-old Sreedharan, who joined the DMRC in 1995, will formally hand over charge to Singh, a veteran civil engineer, this evening at a brief ceremony at the ‘Metro Bhawan’ here.

The iconic ‘Metro Man’, who changed the way Delhi travels by constructing the modern transport system in the capital in a short span of time, will retire after having worked in government service for over 58 years of which 16 years he spent in the Delhi Metro.

After his retirement, Sreedharan plans to spend his post-retirement days in his native village in the Thrissur district of Kerala.

In an interview with reporters recently, Sreedharan summed up his experiences in Delhi Metro as “very satisfying” and attributed the organisation’s success to the “different work culture” and fast decision making process.

The 56-year-old Singh, a civil engineer from Roorkee University, will assume office tomorrow, a DMRC spokesman said.

Singh, who oversaw the high-speed Airport Express Line, is Sreedharan’s choice to step into his shoes as the ‘Metro Man’ wanted an engineer of repute to take over the charge.

Singh is an Indian Railways Service of Engineers (IRSE) officer of the 1981 batch and has worked with Sreedharan in the Kolkata Metro project. He has been associated with the Delhi Metro since its inception.

During his 16-year tenure, Sreedharan not only gave a modern transport system to the capital but also brought in a system at the organisation which is known for completing its project well before schedule.

Under his leadership, the Delhi Metro grew leaps and bounds since it began operations in 2002 with its network now spreading across the National Capital Region.

After its launch in 2002, Delhi Metro slowly added several corridors to its network over the years thus bringing satellite cities of Noida, Gurgaon and Ghaziabad closer to the national capital.

The first ever Metro service was started on December 24, 2002 between Shahdara and Tis Hazari and the number of commuters has increased leaps and bounds over the nine years to reach 20 lakh passengers a day.

Singh is also in-charge of the Delhi Metro’s Phase-III that envisages bringing another 103 km of the capital under the Metro network.

The engineer is also in-charge for consultancy works undertaken by Delhi Metro for planning Metro systems in cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Kochi.

Pradeep Prasad Killed: RTI Activist Pradeep Prasad Shot Dead In Salodi

Posted: 30 Dec 2011 11:16 PM PST

An RTI crusader, who exposed misappropriation of Indira Awas Yojana funds two months ago, was shot dead in a Latehar village last evening in a grim rerun of the fatal attack on MGNREGS activist Niyamat Ansari in the same rebel-hit district in March. Though a hand-written note found beside 40-year-old Pradeep Prasad's body in Salodi, 104km from the state capital, said the PLFI — a breakaway CPI(Maoist) faction — was responsible for the killing, police are yet to confirm Naxalite role in the incident.

According to Town police, who exercise jurisdiction over Salodi village, Prasad — the Latehar block convener of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, a trade union outfit — was returning to his native Mukka village on a motorbike around 6pm, when he was intercepted. His bullet-riddled body — two wounds in the forehead and one in the chest — was discovered around 8am today.

Latehar SP G. Kranti Kumar expressed his inability to name any individual or organisation behind the attack. "Though the PLFI has claimed responsibility for the murder in Salodi, we are yet to ascertain the genuineness of the note found beside the body. Anybody can write it to mislead the police. We are also trying to verify the motive behind the killing," he said.

Local villagers said Prasad often invoked the RTI Act to highlight corruption in government departments and might have made several enemies in the process. "In October, he had exposed embezzlement of funds meant for distribution among beneficiaries of Indira Awas Yojana in villages here, which led deputy commissioner Rahul Purwar to suspend a panchayat sevak, Ishidor Aiend," a villager said.

On whether Prasad was the victim of a conspiracy hatched by unscrupulous government functionaries, the SP said: "We are yet to ascertain the exact motive behind the killing and are investigating the case from all angles." He reiterated that the PLFI note could be a decoy to confuse police. Surprisingly, DGP G.S. Rath said he was not aware of the incident in Latehar, but insisted that the PLFI was not active in that district.

"Latehar is the base of breakaway Maoist groups like the Jharkhand Janmukti Morcha and the Tritiya Prastuti Committee," he added. After Prasad's body was recovered, angry residents blocked NH-75 near Latehar bus stand for two hours from 9am, demanding adequate compensation for the activist's family. Prasad is survived by his wife and five children — one son and four daughters.

The protest quelled after the district administration provided Rs 10,000 for last rites and assured Prasad's kin of further financial assistance soon. On March 2, Niyamat Ansari — a trusted aide of economist and MGNREGS architect Jean Drèze — was targeted by unscrupulous contractors, backed by Maoists, for exposing rampant corruption in the Centre's flagship rural job scheme in a Latehar village.

While Ansari died after being beaten up brutally by a 12-member gang at Jerua, 130km from the state capital, his friend and colleague Bhukan Singh had a narrow escape because he wasn't home when the rebel-backed group came hunting for him. Both Ansari — the block convener of Gram Swaraj Abhiyan and MGNREGS Sahayata Kendra — and Singh had hit headlines on February 20, when they detected financial irregularities in two projects at Rankikala village in Manika block of the district and lodged an FIR against former BDO Kailash Sahu.

More than Rs 2 lakh were recovered from Sahu and his accomplices during raids that followed. After much dilly-dallying, the Arjun Munda government sanctioned a CBI probe into Ansari's killing in July. The central agency is yet to begin investigations.

Eva Longoria Health Mag: Eva Longoria Covers Health Jan-Feb 2012 Magazine

Posted: 30 Dec 2011 11:14 PM PST

Bringing her beauty to the publication’s year-starting installment, Eva Longoria covers the January/February 2012 issue of Health.

The “Desperate Housewives” hottie looks adorable on the Art Streiber shot front page while clad in a BCBGMAXAZARIA top, Rachel Roy shorts, Melinda Maria earrings and a Bulgari ring.

Talking about everything from her definition of a healthy lifestyle to the pressures of feeling ‘beautiful,’ highlights from Miss Longoria’s interview are as follows. For more, be sure to visit Health!

On how she defines a healthy life:
“People think health only has to do with your physical being, but for me, it’s so much more. I remember after my divorce, I was so thin and everyone kept saying how great I looked and it was probably the most unhealthy place I’ve ever been. So it was funny what people would see as ‘healthy.’ In my worst time, people were saying I’ve never looked better. [But now] I have a great diet and exercise routine. And I try to have a healthy outlook. I’m your everlasting, hopeless optimist!”

On where her positive attitude comes from:
“I was just born with that. It’s so funny, because I don’t get depressed. Even after my divorce, everybody was like, ‘Wow, you bounced back so quick.’ I was like, ‘I am not letting this take over. Something great is around the corner—I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen.’”

On her go-to exercise/nutrition plan:
“I love to cook. But when I’m on set, I have food delivery sent there. Before I could afford a food delivery system, I would make my breakfast and lunch, I’d pack some snacks, and put almonds in my purse. I was always prepared because I was always hungry. It’s funny, I would be like, ‘Nuts anyone?’ And they’d say, ‘What is in your purse?’”

On her big health regret:
“Well, I think the time that I became a vegan. [Laughs] I love the philosophy behind veganism, but I went from one day eating chicken and meat to eating just salad. I didn’t know how to be a vegan. I didn’t know about soy or almond butter. I didn’t know that there are great breads. So I literally stuck to salads. And I think I passed out the first week.”

On whether she feels pressure to keep up with the whole “beautiful” thing:
“No. I think that’s probably why I make those lists, because it takes a village to build me for the red carpet. It’s an illusion created by stylists, hair, makeup. I don’t put as much effort into it as my team does. But I think people see something beyond that with me, and I love that I’m defined by my charity work. I think that’s what people see when they give me this label of ‘She’s a beautiful person.’”

On the best workout song on her iPod:
“I don’t workout to music. I workout to my trainer yelling at me. [Laughs]”

On her favorite sandwich:
“Bologna and cheese! [Laughs] with Kraft American, Kraft Singles. On white Wonder Bread with miracle whip. It’s been a while, but that’s just so nostalgic and I love it. Love it, love it, love it.”

On what she plans to do a lot more of in 2012:
“Travel. Everywhere. Wherever the wind takes me. I could live anywhere; I can learn any language. I just love it. I love being immersed in the world.” Eva Longoria Naked On Health Jan-Feb 2012 Magazine Eva Longoria Nude On Health Jan-Feb 2012 Magazine Eva Longoria Topless On Health Jan-Feb 2012 Magazine

Karan Patel Rapist: Karan Patel Tried To Rape Payal Rohatgi – Scandal

Posted: 30 Dec 2011 10:37 PM PST

Karan Patel creates a ruckus outside Payal Rohatgi’s home on two different occasions, deluged her with calls and kept banging on her door, reports.

They didn’t get along during the shooting of their adventure reality show, where a group of contestants are stranded at a remote location. But their cold war took an ugly turn recently, when actor Karan Patel allegedly tried to get cosy with Payal Rohatgi on two occasions.

In one of the incidents which took place once the promo shoot wrapped up, Patel landed outside Rohatgi’s hotel room at 2 am and kept banging on her door. Says a source, “She didn’t open the door. A few days later at a party he again tried to get close to her and later at night turned up at her place.

This time she opened the door and the two ended up in a physical fight. Payal even vented on her micro-blogging site saying ‘Karan is a rapist’. Her boyfriend Sangram had to finally intervene and asked Patel to lay off Rohatgi.” When contacted Payal said, “I don’t want to give him any importance by talking about him.” Repeated attempts to get Karan to respond failed.Karan Patel Tried To Rape Payal Rohatgi

Jorgie Porter In Bikini: Sexy Jorgie Porter In Bikini in Gran Canaria

Posted: 30 Dec 2011 10:22 PM PST

Jorgie Porter’s gearing herself up for a cold few months on Dancing on Ice so Jorgie Porter decided to soak up some last minute sun.

The 24-year-old actress took some time out from training for the ITV1 show to soak up some sunshine in Gran Canaria.

Wearing a tiny pink bikini, the Hollyoaks star relaxed on her sun lounger before deciding to take a dip in the pool.

Slowly easing herself into the water, Porter, who plays Theresa McQueen in the Channel 4 soap, soon went for a full-on swim and later emerged with her blonde hair soaking wet.

Showing off her enviable figure, she stopped halfway through getting out of the pool and looked as though she may have been striking a pose.

She then made her way to the public shower where she clutched her chest and acted as if she was on her very own photo shoot.

Her trip to the Canary Islands wasn’t the only holiday she’s had recently as her boyfriend and co-star James Atherton whisked her off to Brussels on Boxing Day.

‘Ew I have the best boyfriend ever!! #gross @jatherton87 he’s taking on a surprise holiday right now!!!!!’ Porter tweeted on Monday.

The on and off screen couple were on their way home today as Porter informed her followers by posting: ‘On train back to Brussels airport brugges is beautiful city!!! Very romantic ;D x x’

Porter confirmed her relationship with Atherton – who plays Will Savage – back in September.

‘Me and James have been dating a while and it is the first time I have dated a co-star,’ reported Digital Spy.

‘I’ve never actually admitted that we have been going out, but things are going really well and he is a great guy, I can’t shut up about him!’

Porter, who celebrated her birthday on Christmas Day, will join a whole host of famous faces when Dancing On Ice begins next month – and no doubt Atherton will be there cheering her on.

Former Brookside star Jennifer Ellison, EastEnders actress Laila Morse and Sugababe Heidi Range will join Porter on the ice on January 8. Sexy Jorgie Porter Naked in Gran Canaria Sexy Jorgie Porter Nude in Gran Canaria Sexy Jorgie Porter Topless in Gran Canaria

Kimora Simmons In Bikini: Kimora Lee Simmons In Bikini at St Barts Beach

Posted: 30 Dec 2011 10:13 PM PST

Most mothers could be forgiven for wanting to cover up on the beach- and more than ever during the festive season.

But Kimora Lee Simmons certainly had nothing to hide as she frolicked in her bikini on the beach at St Barts.

The 36-year-old, formerly creative director of Phat Fashions, showed off her incredible six foot frame as she played in the surf with her daughter Aoki and husband Djimon Hounsou.

And the reality star must have been feeling the heat, as she emerged from a swim, and rather than toweling herself off opted to slip straight into a green dress.

Kimora had been swimming in the sea looking stunning in a purple and grey patterned string bikini.

But instead of drying off, she simply whipped on her brightly-covered mini dress to go for a romantic stroll with her handsome husband Djimon Hounsou, 47.

Sinking her toes into the sand, Kimora’s tiny dress was soaked, but she certainly didn’t seem to mind.

She showed off her endless toned legs and fabulous figure in her attire.

Smiling, she stayed close to her handsome hubby, who looked muscular in a pair of printed boardshorts. Kimora Lee Simmons In Bikini at St Barts Beach Kimora Lee Simmons Naked at St Barts Beach Kimora Lee Simmons Nude at St Barts Beach Kimora Lee Simmons Topless at St Barts Beach
